3 Popular Attractions Returning to Disneyland this Summer
Classic attractions return!
This summer, Disneyland California will celebrate the return of 3 iconic attractions…

If you’re visiting Disneyland California this summer, you’re in for a treat! Not one, not two, but three iconic attractions are set to make a grand return to the Disneyland Park, just in time for the park’s 62nd anniversary. After being closed for some time, due to park refurbishments (and the building of the new Star Wars Land!) Rivers of America, the Disneyland Railroad, and the breath-taking Fantasmic show are the fan favourites that are set to reopen for the summer celebrations. Here’s what you need to know…

This summer, the Rivers of America attraction will reopen, inspired by four of America’s great rivers- the Mississippi, the Columbia, the Missouri and the Rio Grande. The journey has always been beautiful, but it’s now become even more so with an all-new waterfront and five rushing waterfalls. The first part of the classic Rivers of America attraction- Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, reopened on 16th June, so you can enjoy it now! It is a secret hideaway inspired by the stories of Mark Twain, and is rumoured to be a place concealing long-lost treasure.

On 29th June, the next part of the development will open, and guests will be able to enjoy Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes. This invites the bravest adventurers to climb inside a 35-foot-long canoe and sail along the river in search of new discoveries. This has been a favourite with guests for decades, so if you’ve never experienced it, make sure you give it a go this summer.

On July 17th, one of our favourite attractions will relaunch with a bang…literally! If you haven’t heard of the show before, Fantasmic is a spectacular night-time performance that has been a theme park favourite for 25 years now. Watch in awe as fireworks soar into the night sky filling it with bursts of colour. There’s music, lasers, fibre optics, video projections on water and lots of special effects! The star of the show is Mickey Mouse, and Fantasmic is all about bringing his dream to life. The famous mouse conducts a mesmerising water show on the Rivers of America, where you’ll see the forces of good and evil go head to head in battle, as the Disney characters appear before your eyes.

With just a wave of his wand, Mickey conducts scenes from Fantasia, that are projected onto huge screens of water using state-of-the-art technology. Look out for princesses, pink elephants, puppets and a 45-foot-tall fire-breathing dragon! If you’ve seen the show before, you’ll recognise the original theme song straight away, but there are some new surprises to look forward to as well. New mist screens will showcase brighter, more vibrant visuals from the most beloved Disney movies of all time, including new scenes from classics like The Lion King and Aladdin. This incredible show is unlike any other, and we’re so happy that it’s finally back! If you’re visiting soon, make sure you see it.

That’s not all though, the Disneyland Railroad will reopen on 29th July! The famous attraction has been an icon at the park for more than 60 years and is a firm favourite with guests. Walt Disney himself was a train enthusiast and it’s a tradition that railroads now exist at every single Disney park around the world. Experience the tradition for yourself, as you climb onboard an authentic steam-powered train for a scenic tour of the park. The 18-minute adventure is the perfect way to sample the magic.

When the attraction reopens later this summer, you’ll be able to enjoy some new and enhanced features too. For the first time ever, the Disneyland Railroad will make a left-hand turn, taking you on a different route through the park. You’ll also be able to see Walt Disney’s models of the Grand Canyon and Primeval World, which have been restored with a sprinkle of new magic added to both.
