On 23rd June 2018, a brand new area called Pixar Pier, officially opened at the Disney California Adventure Park. The entire land has been reimagined into four different neighbourhoods which are inspired by classic Pixar movies. You can now explore areas themed on Toy Story, The Incredibles, Inside Out and a special area that combines a whole host of Pixar favourites. There’s exciting new attractions, themed food outlets and plenty of shops, and there’s still more to come with two fantastic attractions set to open this year!
Pixar Pier is located along the shores of Paradise Bay and as soon as you step foot on the boardwalk, you’ll be transported to the magical world of Pixar. There’s so much to catch your attention but one of our favourites is the new Incredicoaster over in the Incredibles Park neighbourhood. As you can probably tell from the name, this coaster is inspired by the popular Incredibles movies, so if you're a fan, make sure you check it out for yourself.
The story goes that the high-speed coaster has been built as a dedication to the Incredibles gang and the family are out in full force for the opening. Jack-Jack and Edna are too small to ride, so they wait by the side while the rest of the family climb onboard. Jack-Jack manages to escape though and it’s not long before he’s causing havoc along the track. It’s down to his ‘incredible’ family (and you!) to help save the day. There’s music, lasers and lots of special effects along the way. This is now the fastest ride at the Disneyland Resort and the longest, with over 1 1/8 miles of track, so thrill seekers will definitely want to try it out.
At Toy Story Boardwalk, you’ll find the popular Toy Story Mania attraction. This lets you compete against your friends and family in a laugh-out-loud, 4D shoot out. You’ll get points for hitting the targets (some are worth more than others) as you throw objects like darts, eggs and baseballs to rack up the most points. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, head to the new Señor Buzz Churros for a delicious snack.
That’s not all though, there's also a new attraction called Jessie’s Critter Carousel. This giant carousel stars cowgirl Jessie alongside a friendly bunch of desert critters inspired by the Toy Story films. You can choose whether to ride on the back of a snake, armadillo, turtle or bunny. This is one that the whole family can enjoy together.
Pixar Promenade is a fun neighbourhood that celebrates the stories and characters of several Pixar movies in one place. Make sure you’ve got your autograph book handy as you’ll have the chance to meet your Pixar heroes. Mickey’s Fun Wheel has had an exciting makeover, transforming it into the all new ‘Pixar Pal-A-Round’. All of the gondolas now feature popular Pixar characters like Buzz, Woody, Dory, Nemo, Mr Incredible, Joy, Sadness and many more. This 150-foot Ferris wheel ride is a must try and one of the highlights of this new area.
The Inside Out Headquarters is on the western side of the boardwalk. The colourful area offers plenty of fun for kids and big kids alike. It’s star attraction is yet to open, but Disney have confirmed that it will be unveiled later this year. ‘Inside Out Emotional Whirlwind!’ will be a family-friendly ride that’s “full of emotions”. Here’s a sneak peek at what it will look like…
There’s lots of amazing food to try too, with themed counter-service restaurants in each area. For something sweet Jack-Jack Cookie Num Nums is the place to go. There’s a whole range of tasty cookies here and we love them all. If you’re looking for something to cool down from the heat, we’d recommend a refreshing soft serve from the Adorable Snowman Frosted Treats. The ‘It’s Snow-Capped Lemon!’ flavour is dipped in white chocolate and is top of our list!
For something more filling, head to the Lamplight Lounge for a hearty sit-down meal. This is right by the entrance of Pixar Pier, so you won’t miss it. There’s mouth-watering New York strip steak, wings, tuna poke, salad and lots more delicious dishes on the menu. You can also indulge in a cocktail (or two!) as you admire the panoramic views of Paradise Bay.
