There are so many amazing things to do in Los Angeles and we don’t want you to miss out on a single thing. That’s why we’ve put together a list of the best things to do in LA from thrilling attractions to relaxing days in the sun and everything in between, to give you some inspiration for your holiday…
1. Visit Disneyland!
A holiday to Los Angeles wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Disneyland Resort in California- no matter how old you are! Did you know, that Disneyland California was actually the first ever Disney theme park to be built? So, if you’re a huge Disney fan and want to experience a true piece of Disney history, make sure you book your Disneyland tickets in advance.
There are now two parks to explore- Disney California Adventure Park, which lets you step inside the movies and experience attractions inspired by Toy Story, Guardians of the Galaxy and the Incredibles, and Disneyland Park which is home to classic rides like Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Star Tours- The Adventures Continue, "it’s a small world" and many more.
This year will also see the opening of a huge new expansion at Disneyland California. In fact, it will be Disneyland Park's largest ever single-themed expansion spanning over 14 acres. Star Wars Land or Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge to give it its official name, will be opening in summer 2019 and is sure to be a galactic hit with guests.
2. Go to Hogwarts
Universal Studios Hollywood is an incredible theme park full of thrilling rides and attractions, including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. If you’re a big Potter fan (who isn’t?) you’ll be able to explore the snowy village of Hogsmeade, sample delicious wizarding snacks and see the iconic Hogwarts Castle. There are also two main rides to experience- Flight of the Hippogriff and Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey, which takes you on an exhilarating ride through Hogwarts Castle that you’ll never forget. Make sure this is at the very top of your ‘must do’ list.
Of course, that’s not all! Universal Studios Hollywood is still to this day, a real working movie studio. You’ll be able to discover a host of amazing rides and attractions inspired by your favourite movies, including Despicable Me, Fast & Furious, King Kong and The Walking Dead. The world-famous Studio Tour is another ‘must do’ and is included free with your Universal tickets. You’ll get to go behind the scenes and take a close-up look at real movie and TV sets, including the wreckage from War of the Worlds and the eerie Bates Motel from Psycho.
3. See the famous Hollywood sign
This is much more than just a sign, this is an iconic American landmark that has become one of the most recognisable places in the world. If you’re looking for things to do in LA, a visit to the Hollywood sign really does deserve a place on your list.
While they might not look it from the ground below, the letters are an impressive 45-feet-tall! If you want to get up close to the sign you can book tickets for a Hollywood sign tour, which will take you right to the top. This is the perfect place to snap those all-important selfies.
4. Take a stroll along the Hollywood Walk of Fame
Once you’ve seen the Hollywood sign, it’s time to walk in the footsteps of the stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This famous tourist attraction features more than 2,600 stars adorned with the names of popular celebrities from the worlds of music, theatre, film, television and more.
Take a stroll along the Hollywood Walk of Fame and look out for stars honouring Elvis Presley, Marilyn Monroe, Michael Jackson, Dean Martin, Walt Disney, Julie Andrews, Mike Myers, Danny DeVito, Halle Berry, Sylvester Stallone, Ryan Reynolds and many more. Make sure you’ve got your camera at the ready to take plenty of photos.
The Grauman’s Chinese Theatre is also located on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This famous movie theatre is not only where lots of movie premieres take place, but also where you’ll find a host of celebrity handprints in the theatre’s forecourt.
5. Go hiking
Hiking is extremely popular in LA and if you’re a fan of the outdoors you might want to give it a go during your visit. Hiking is a great way to get out in the open air and admire stunning views of Los Angeles at the same time.
If you’re not really sure where to start, don’t worry because you can join a Hollywood Hills Guided Hike led by an expert tour guide. Your guide will take you to the highest point in the Hollywood Hills, before an insider’s tour of the Griffith Park Observatory. You’ll have the unique opportunity to take in the natural beauty around you and admire panoramic views of Los Angeles. Your tour guide will point out all the special spots along the way, including the Hollywood sign and even some blockbuster movie locations.
6. Brave the SkySlide
Feeling brave? The SkySlide is an exhilarating attraction that lets you glide down a 45-foot glass slide, suspended almost 1,000-feet above the streets of LA! If you want to try something a bit different, it’s definitely worth adding this to your list.
The SkySlide is located in the US Bank Tower, 70 floors above the ground. From the OUE observation deck, you’ll be able to admire spectacular 360-degree views of the Hollywood Sign, Santa Monica Pier, the Dodger Stadium and much more. Then it’s time to take on the slide and look straight through the glass at the city below!
7. Go shopping on Rodeo Drive
You’ve probably heard of Rodeo Drive before, as it’s one of the most famous streets in the world. If you want to indulge in a bit of retail therapy on your trip to LA, this is a great place to go. This legendary two-mile stretch in the heart of Beverly Hills, is lined with luxury designer stores.
You can expect to find the likes of Cartier, Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, Prada and many more. Whether you intend to treat yourself or enjoy a spot of window shopping, this is the kind of place you have to tick off your list. Movie fans will also recognise Rodeo Drive as being an important location in the Pretty Woman movie.
8. Visit Santa Monica Beach
If you’re planning a visit to Los Angeles, you’re probably hoping to spend some time relaxing in the sunshine. If that’s the case, we’d recommend paying a visit to Santa Monica State Beach. This gorgeous beach is just a short drive from central LA, meaning you can sink your feet into the sand within about half an hour!
If you want to just sit back and laze the day away, this is the perfect place to unwind. But, if you’re looking for a bit more adventure, you can rent a bike, go surfing or even attend a trapeze class! Santa Monica Pier also provides lots of entertainment, thanks to its lively arcade and the fun Ferris wheel. It’s also a great place to pick up some tasty snacks on the go.
