We’re looking back to that huge announcement of the summer now, when Universal Orlando revealed details of a massive new park, Epic Universe.
Set to be “the most immersive and innovative theme park [Universal] have ever created”, very little was actually teased about the new park, save for some interesting park designs and maps.
What we do know, however, is that it is located within a 750-acre site and will create 14,000 new jobs. Universal also gave some indication as to what will be included in the area, promising an entertainment center, hotel, shops, restaurants and loads more.
As with every new park announcement, fans have been quick to analyse the designs and offer their insights into what they think will be included in each area. While Universal have confirmed nothing (yet), it’s still incredibly fun to speculateand imagine what the park could look like.
Let’s have a look at those all important rumours below:
‘Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them’ Area
Wands at the ready - you may need them! This rumour says that another magical area could be coming to Universal Orlando, themed around the streets of Paris in the 1920’s, which is where the second film - Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald - is set. One of the reasonings behind this comes from the success of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, and fans have also pointed to the fact that, at the moment, Universal Orlando is lacking a mainland-Europe influenced section of the resort.
Upon analyzing the concept art, fans have also suggested that this land would be almost entirely indoors, which could mean the addition of an internal Ministry of Magic attraction, where the rider travels around using the floo powder network. Another suggested ride is Newt’s Creatures, which rumours believe could centre around the escape of the creatures lost throughout the city.
Super Nintendo World
Possibly the most realistic and likely rumour, Super Nintendo World is already due to open in Japan next year. In a recent interview, CEO Tom Williams also confirmed that the world will come to other Universal Parks, after the Japan one opens, saying “We are bringing it, you can count on it.” Leaked photos do suggest that construction has already begun at Universal Hollywood, and another Nintendo World at Universal Singapore is reportedly underway.
Super Nintendo World in Japan has two confirmed attractions, the biggest of which is the Mario Kart ride. Universal have said that it will be “the most immersive and cutting edge technological attraction that we could possibly imagine.” This attraction is said to be at every Super Nintendo World, so there’s a good chance it will be coming to Epic Universe.
The other attraction confirmed for Japan is Yoshi’s Adventure Ride, though little more information was given about the ride. Fans suggests it will be family attraction celebrating over three decades of Yoshi and Mario related video games.
Wiliams also confirmed that a Bowser-themed area and Princess Peach’s Castle will be at Super Nintendo World in Japan. Fans on the internet have reportedly uncovered another - as yet unconfirmed - attraction too: Donkey Kong’s Mine Madness. Just like in the games, guests could be riding in a minecart, jumping over ‘missing’ segments of the tracks too.
In terms of a Super Nintendo World in Florida though, nothing has been confirmed...yet. We’re keeping our fingers crossed for this one!
World of Classic Universal Monsters
Following from their successful Halloween Horror Nights Haunted House, fans are turning to the world of horror for this next rumours. This one comes mainly from a closer look at the concept art, which in the back-left shows an ominous castle and windmill-like buildings. Fans believe these could be Dracula’s Castle and Frankenstein’s Windmill. Leaked documents supposedly show plans for the Dracula’s Castle addition, too.
Theme-park enthusiasts also believe that this area could be themed like an old European village, containing at least two attractions, one of which is a high-tech dark ride and either a walk-through attraction or some type of show.
How to Train Your Dragon
Viking-themed attractions could be coming to Epic Universe, according to theme-park fans. When analysing the concept art, rumours suggest that the ‘Isle of Berk’ could be placed where the most open area of the park is, making way for a How to Train Your Dragon Roller Coaster - a long, family-friendly ride.
Another Dragan Indoor Attraction may also be featured in the land, with some believing this could be similar to Avatar: Flight of Passage at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.
Duelling Launched Roller Coaster
Upon closer look at the concept art, viewers will already have spotted that a long, winding track seemingly extends from the central ‘hub’ of the park. Most rumours point to a two track roller coaster, which runs parallel to each other for the entire ride. This attraction wouldn’t be connected to a specific area of the park, instead allowing riders to queue from the middle of the park.
Another rumour attached to the hub, is the idea that it will be themed after exploration and fantasy, with talk of at least one indoor show. As it’s going to cover at least 23 acres (according to the designs) it’s likely to have a lot more than just shops and restaurants.
