1. Toy Story Land
Disney first revealed plans to open a Toy Story-themed land at their Hollywood Studios park back in 2015. Fans of the classic movies will be pleased to hear that there’s now not long to wait before the exciting new land is unveiled. Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman- Bob Chapek, confirmed that the land will officially open to the public in summer 2018!
Everything in the land will be super-sized, to make you feel as though you’re the size of one of Andy’s many toys. There will also be two main attractions to enjoy. Slinky Dog Dash will be a family-friendly coaster that Andy has built in his backyard. Alien Swirling Saucers will be an action-packed adventure that sends you swirling through the galaxy trying to avoid “the claw”.
2. Star Wars Land
If you haven’t already heard that Disney are creating a new land entirely themed on Star Wars, then where have you been? In fact, there will be two Star Wars themed lands- one at Disneyland California and one in the Hollywood Studios park at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. At the D23 Expo, Bob Chapek revealed that the official name of the 14-acre lands will be- Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.
The new land will make you feel as though you’ve stepped straight into one of the Star Wars movies, with the incredible theming running throughout the entire area. The land will have two main attractions that guests can enjoy. These don’t have names yet, but we do know that you’ll be able to take control of the Millennium Falcon space craft on an exhilarating race through the galaxy, as well as joining a battle between the First Order and the Resistance. There will also be themed restaurants, tasty Star Wars-inspired snacks, a marketplace and character meet and greets.
3. Star Wars Hotel
For some time now, rumours have been circulating that a Star Wars-themed hotel could be opening at the Walt Disney World Resort, and now the exciting news has been confirmed! For fans of the Star Wars saga, this will be a dream hotel. Bob Chapek (Disney Parks & Resorts Chairman) made the announcement and revealed that the new resort would be fully immersive, offering guests a “revolutionary new vacation experience”. Unlike anything else that exists today, the hotel will invite guests to live out their very own Star Wars story. This includes dressing in the appropriate Star Wars costumes, taking part in secret missions and meeting Star Wars legends. There’s even rumours that the hotel might be designed to look like the Millennium Falcon!
4. Guardians of the Galaxy Attraction
An out of this world attraction inspired by the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise is coming to Disney’s Epcot. Guardians of the Galaxy- Mission: BREAKOUT! opened earlier this year at Disneyland California and within the next few years, the Walt Disney World Resort will be getting its very own version. Guests will become immersed into the world of the Guardians and will even get the chance to meet their heroes. Disney haven’t revealed too many details yet, but the current ride at Disneyland California features music, special effects and a stomach-churning drop sequence that we’re hoping to see replicated in the new ride. The attraction also requires guests to help save the Guardians of the Galaxy gang with the help of Rocket Racoon. Are you up for the challenge?
5. Ratatouille Ride
A new ride inspired by the popular Ratatouille movie is set to open in the France pavilion at Disney’s Epcot. Disney haven’t revealed too many details about what the new attraction will be like, but they have said it will be similar to the 4D ‘Ratatouille: The Adventure’ attraction at Disneyland Paris. This ride shrinks guests down to the same size as the lovable Remy and puts you right in the middle of a frantic chase through the kitchen of Gusteau’s famous Parisian restaurant. We’ve got our fingers crossed that we’ll be able to meet Remy too!
6. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
It’s been a long time coming, but Walt Disney World will finally be getting a Mickey and Minnie Mouse ride. Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will be the first ever ride-through attraction inspired by the famous mouse duo and we think it’s going to be a hit! The attraction will transport you into the “wacky and unpredictable” world of a Mickey Mouse cartoon.
Be prepared for plenty of surprises along the way, as well as dazzling special effects and “mindboggling transformations that happen before your very eyes”. This really is a ride where anything could happen! The attraction will feature a new story, catchy theme song, and a totally new experience called 2 ½ D. Never heard of it? That’s because it’s a new type of technology which Disney are using to turn the colourful cartoon into a “dimensional display of amazingness”.
7. Tron Roller Coaster
Calling all thrill seekers! A brand new roller coaster called Tron is coming to the Magic Kingdom. Disney super-fans might know that Tron is already a popular coaster at Shanghai Disneyland. The exhilarating attraction sends riders zooming through Tron’s high-tech universe. There’s flashing lights, adrenalin-inducing music and incredible 3D graphics too. The action-packed attraction will be located in a new area, right next to Space Mountain.
8. Disney Skyliner
A new cable car service called the Disney Skyliner is coming to Walt Disney World. You’ll be able to admire spectacular bird’s eye views as you soar above the resort. Each gondola will feature images of iconic Disney characters, adding to the picture-perfect experience. The system will connect Disney’s Art of Animation, Pop Century and Caribbean Beach Resorts to the International Gateway at Epcot and Disney’s Hollywood Studios park.
9. Minnie Van Service
The Skyliner isn’t the only new form of transport though. Disney have just introduced a new fleet of Minnie Mouse vehicles that will ensure you travel in style at all times. Designed to look like Minnie’s iconic outfit, each car is red and covered with white polka dots. The new Minnie Van Service is now in operation, available to those staying at Disney’s BoardWalk Resort or Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts. Transport can be booked through using an app on your smartphone and before you know it, a Disney cast member will arrive to take you anywhere you like in the Walt Disney World Resort.
10. New Theatre for Main Street U.S.A
Main Street U.S.A is about to change forever, as Disney have revealed plans to open a huge new theatre at the Magic Kingdom park. The theatre will become a world-class entertainment venue, where guests will be able to enjoy a range of incredible new shows. An artist concept image was released to show what the theatre will look like, and if you’re thinking it looks familiar, it’s because it’s actually based on the famous Willis Wood theatre in Kansas City (where Walt lived after leaving Marceline).
11. Space-themed Restaurant
Ever dreamed of visiting outer space? Well, for aspiring astronauts, this is the next best thing. A new space-themed restaurant will be opening at Epcot, allowing guests to dine amongst the stars. As well as offering amazing meals, the restaurant will also have spectacular views of Planet Earth from space! The space eatery will be located adjacent to the park’s popular Mission: SPACE attraction, which is also set to be updated with some exciting new missions.
We’re still waiting to find out when most of the new attractions will be opening, but Disney have suggested that everything will be open in time for the resort’s 50th anniversary celebrations in 2021. Make sure you keep checking our blog in the meantime for all the latest updates.
