If you hadn’t already heard (where have you been?), Disney are creating two 14-acre Star Wars-inspired lands, one at the Disneyland Resort in California and the other at the Walt Disney World Resort. Over the weekend, Disney chairman Bob Chapek made not one, not two, but three exciting Star Wars announcements at the D23 Expo. He unveiled an incredible model of what the lands will look like, revealed the name and confirmed that a Star Wars-themed hotel will open in the future! Here’s all the details…
The first announcement came when the model was revealed. The incredible attention to detail gives fans a sneak peek at what’s in store. Look closely and you’ll notice a market, restaurants and the Millennium Falcon. Check out the video below to find out what else you can expect:
Star Wars Resort
One of the most exciting announcements to come from Disney this weekend (if not ever!) has to be the news that a Star Wars Resort is coming to Walt Disney World! Rumours have been circulating for some time about a potential Star Wars hotel, but now it’s finally be confirmed, we can start getting excited! Fans of the franchise will be able to stay in a hotel that’s entirely themed on the Star Wars saga and offers a “100% immersive” experience. Sounds cool, right?
Bob Chapek described the resort as being unlike anything else that exists today. He said “From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story! You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire”. You’ll also encounter iconic Star Wars characters and exciting adventures along the way. Rumour has it, that the adventures may even continue through to the Disney theme parks too. There’s even talk that the hotel design could be inspired by the Millennium Falcon, but for now, we’ll have to wait and see.
Star Wars Land
Disney first revealed that they would be opening two Star Wars-themed lands back in 2015 at the D23 Expo. At this year’s event, they announced that the lands will be called- Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge. Both lands are currently under construction and will welcome guests from 2019. While that means there’s still some time to wait, there’s plenty to get excited about in the meantime, like the land’s star attractions.
There will be two main attractions and if you’re a Star Wars fan, you’ll want to try them both. One attraction will make you feel like you’re on a Star Destroyer inside a hangar bay, whilst the other will let you take control of the famous Millennium Falcon. You’ll be able to pilot the spacecraft as you embark on a critical mission, shooting blasters along the way. How well you do will decide whether you earn extra galactic credits or end up on the list of a bounty hunter.
As you explore Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, you’ll encounter your favourite Star Wars characters, including BB-8, Chewbacca and members of the First Order. Make sure you’ve got your autograph book and camera with you, so that you can take plenty of pictures with the heroes and villains you’ve seen on screen.
The Star Wars land will also include a cantina which will be serving up unique concoctions like blue milk, and a market where you can pick up souvenirs to take home. Make sure you keep checking our blog for all the latest news and updates.
