Disney’s ground-breaking new land Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge is set to open at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland California next year and ever since we heard the news, we’ve been eagerly waiting to find out more. This weekend, at D23’s Destination D event, Bob Chapek (Chairman of Disney Parks Experiences and Consumer Products) finally confirmed the names of TWO new rides that will become the land’s main attractions, and they both look amazing!
The first attraction will be called Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run and as you can probably tell from the name, this ride is all about the famous Millennium Falcon space craft. Fans will be able to climb onboard and embark on an exciting adventure to a galaxy far, far away. Guests will be put behind the controls of the craft in one of three unique flight crew roles. The video below shows a sneak peek at the Millennium Falcon ride.
The second attraction will put guests in the middle of an action-packed battled between the Resistance and the First Order. This ride will be called Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance. Disney shared a video that was actually filmed inside the new attraction, so you can get a sneak peek at what’s in store.
Both of these new rides are set to be a big hit with guests. The state-of-the-art ride technology will make you feel part of the action as you become fully immersed into the incredible Star Wars world. As well as the rides, there will be lots of exciting attractions to explore in this 14-acre land, including a marketplace run by a Toydarian, special character encounters and Oga’s Cantina which will serve up blue milk!
Disney also revealed new details about the music for Star Wars Land. Bob Chapek confirmed that there will be new Star Wars themes created exclusively for this new land by John Williams- the man behind the original Star Wars theme tune we all know and love. Williams is already working on the new music which is being recorded by the London Symphony Orchestra at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios in London. Check out the video below to see Williams hard at work and to get a sneak peek at the construction of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge so far...
Chapek also shared more details on the new Star Wars hotel that’s in development. He described the resort as “a fully-immersive, multi-day Star Wars adventure aboard a luxury star ship complete with high-end dining, space-view cabins and all of the exciting action you would expect from an authentic Star Wars experience”. The one-of-a-kind resort will give guests the chance to dress in the proper Star Wars attire and get involved in unique experiences that will seamlessly connect your resort stay to your time at Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge in Disney’s Hollywood Studios park.
