It’s been a long time coming, but soon, Walt Disney World will finally be welcoming an attraction themed on iconic Disney duo- Mickey and Minnie Mouse! The “game-changing” ride will be opening at Disney’s Hollywood Studios park, and it’s now been officially confirmed that it will be opening in 2019! If you haven’t heard much about the new ride, here’s what you need to know…
Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway will be the first ever Mickey ride-through attraction, which we think makes it’s a must-try. The amazing attraction will immerse you into the weird and wonderful world of a Mickey Mouse cartoon, putting you right into the middle of the action. At the recent D23 Expo in Japan, Bob Chapek (Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts) revealed even more exciting details of what the attraction will be like.
The adventure begins when you see the premiere of a new cartoon short, where Minnie and Mickey can be seen preparing for a picnic. As they set off on their journey, they drive alongside a steam train which is being driven by none other than their pal Goofy! Suddenly, you’ll be able to step inside the dazzling cartoon and board Goofy’s train for a wild ride like no other.
The attraction will use a unique form of technology, which Disney are calling 2 ½ D. You won’t need to wear any kind of special glasses for this to work but will be able to see the cartoon come to life before your eyes in a “dimensional display of amazingness”. There will be plenty of twists, turns and surprises along the way, on this eccentric adventure where anything could happen.
To make the attraction as authentic as possible, the team of Imagineers are working alongside Disney Television Animation- the people responsible for creating the award-winning Mickey cartoons. From the details announced so far, it sounds like it’s going to be one incredible ride!
While the exact opening date hasn’t yet been confirmed, our guess is that it will be open in time to celebrate the park’s 30th anniversary in May next year. Watch this space!
