A visit to New York City isn’t complete until you’ve seen a Broadway show, and with so much to choose from, there really is something for everyone. There’s lots to do in the Big Apple, and we’re sure most of you will have a jam-packed itinerary for your visit. If you’ve got limited time, its important to make a plan of action and get your ticket strategy sorted beforehand, so you don’t miss out.
So, this brings us to the big question. Do you wait until you arrive in the hope of getting cheap tickets on the day, or do you book in advance to avoid disappointment? We think booking in advance is the best option and here’s a few reasons why…
Tickets are unlikely to be cheaper on the day:
Lots of people think that if you buy Broadway tickets on the day, they’ll be much cheaper. While you may be able to get the odd discounted deal if you’re lucky, this isn’t always the case. Lots of Broadway shows (including the most popular shows) have set pricing, which means it won’t make a difference if you purchase the tickets on the day, as they’ll still be the same price. Booking in advance gives you the advantage of securing tickets to the show you want and choosing your preferred seats.
You get to see the show you want:
There are plenty of Broadway shows to choose from, but if you’ve got your heart set on a particular show, it really is best to book your Broadway tickets in advance. The most popular shows like The Lion King and Wicked usually sell out each night, so it’s unlikely you’ll get the chance to see one of these shows if you leave it until the day. Newer shows (like Frozen and Aladdin) also sell out quickly so booking in advance is the only way to guarantee you’ll see the show that you want.
You can make the most of your time:
There are so many incredible things to do in New York City, and you’ll want to make every second count. If you want to try and get tickets when you arrive, you should be prepared to spend a lot of time waiting in line at the box office. Depending on where you’re staying, you might even have to travel out of your way to get there, which will take up valuable time. This definitely won’t be one of the more memorable moments of your holiday. By booking in advance, you won’t have to worry about this and will have more time on your hands to explore this fascinating city.
You can choose where to sit:
If you’re going to spend your money on Broadway tickets, you’ll want to make sure you have the best seats possible. There’s nothing worse than sitting right at the back and having to crane your neck the whole way through a show. If you’re hoping to get tickets on the day, you’ll be offered the remaining seats available, and these are often the seats furthest away from the stage. If you want to be able to enjoy the show properly, it’s best to book your tickets in advance and take your pick from the best seats in the house.
You can tick Broadway off your bucket list:
Watching a Broadway show truly is a bucket list-worthy experience. If you don’t book tickets in advance and decide to wait until you arrive, there’s a chance that you’ll end up getting so carried away exploring the city, that you’ll forget all about making time for a show. If you’ve got it booked up in advance, you’re guaranteed a great night out that you'll never forget.
