'Seasame Place' to Replace Aquatica San Diego
Big news from San Diego this week!
Aquatica is transforming into a family-friendly and iconic theme park - get ready for Sesame Place!

The first Sesame Place is opening on the West Coast in spring 2021, replacing Aquatica’s San Diego location.

The announcement was made earlier this week, with Stephen Youngwood (President, Media & Education and Chief Operating Officer, Sesame Workshop) saying “As we celebrate Sesame Street’s 50th Anniversary, we are excited to share the news of a major opportunity for kids and families to connect with and learn from the brand and its beloved characters.

“The opening of Sesame Place San Diego will give guests a unique and powerful way to experience Sesame Street, enable us to connect with even more families, and further our educational mission.”

The first and only other Sesame Place theme park is currently in Philadelphia, and has been welcoming guests for nearly 40 years. It is the only U.S. theme park based entirely on the iconic children’s show.

Sesame Place San Diego will feature exciting family rides, water slides, live character shows, parades and interactive experiences, all which extend the laughter and learning of Sesame Street. It’s a highly immersive theme park that is sure to delight all members of the family.

The park will also open as a Certified Autism Center (CAC), which means staff will have autism sensitivity and awareness training prior the park’s opening. There will also be loads of pre-visit planning resources, including a park-specific sensory guide that will be featured on the website, making it easier for parents to plan activities that satisfy their child’s specific needs.

The park will include quiet spaces with adjustable lighting and comfortable seating throughout the park.

Sesame Place San Diego will be located on the site of the current Aquatica San Diego, however Aquatica will remain open during the park’s transformation. Nearly all of the rides are reported to remain open once the change is complete, meaning that older children should still be able to enjoy the new park too.

SeaWorld Orlando recently opened Sesame Street Land, a brand new land with six themed rides, over 30 ways to play and the park’s first ever parade.
