How to Spend 3 Days in San Diego
Make your visit unforgettable!
We’ve put together a handy itinerary to help you plan your 3-day visit to San Diego…

San Diego is a great holiday destination, famous for its sandy beaches and fantastic weather. With so much to see in this beautiful city, we thought it would be useful to put together a 3-day guide, so you can pack in as much as possible during your visit.

Day One:

To make the most of your 3-day visit, we’d recommend purchasing a 3-day Go San Diego Card in advance. This great value pass costs around €178 and allows you admission to more than 40 top attractions! You can visit as many as you like, or in this case, as many as you can fit into 3 days.

The pass also includes admission to one of the most popular attractions in the city- the San Diego Zoo. This huge 100-acre zoo, is home to over 3,700 rare and endangered animals, representing more than 650 species. You’ll be able to get a close up look at elephants, cheetahs, alligators, giant pandas, lions and much more! What’s even better, is your ticket includes skip the line entry, so you’ll be able to avoid the queues and walk straight in.

San Diego Zoo

With so many amazing animals to see, a visit to San Diego Zoo could take up most of the day. We’d suggest spending the evening checking out some of the local bars or dining at one of the beautiful waterfront restaurants. Fresh fish is a specialty here, so we’d recommend giving this a try.

Day Two:

La Jolla Beach San Diego

Get up early on day two and get ready to explore the wonderful scenery and spectacular ocean vistas this city is famous for. First stop is La Jolla- “The Jewel” of San Diego. If you haven’t hired a car, don’t worry, you can buy tickets for a guided tour of La Jolla which includes transport.

The beach is absolutely stunning and we’re sure you’ll want to spend some time relaxing on the sand, but if you’re looking for something a bit more adventurous, you can take your pick from a range of fun biking, snorkelling and kayaking experiences.

The Go San Diego Card lets you enjoy these activities for FREE! Whether you want to admire the beautiful marine life with a snorkelling session, or rent a bike and go off the beaten track by yourself, there’s something for everyone.

San Diego GoCar

After a day of fun at the beach, get ready for an exciting evening exploring San Diego in a GoCar! Not only is this a great way to see the city, it’s also great fun. The GoCar Tour takes you on a GPS-guided route, passing the city’s top attractions along the way. Look out for San Diego Zoo, Balboa Park, SeaWorld San Diego and the famous Gaslamp Quarter to name a few.

The cars are easy to drive, and you won’t have to worry about getting lost, as the car always knows where you are- even if you don’t! Once your tour has finished, we’d recommend staying on in the Gaslamp Quarter for a bite to eat and a few drinks to round off your evening. This lively neighbourhood is well known for its nightlife with lots of great bars and cocktail lounges, so you can take your pick.

Day Three:

If you’re travelling with little ones, we’ve got the perfect idea for day 3. LEGOLAND California has over 60 rides, shows and attractions that are sure to put a smile on the kids (and big kids!) faces. This fantastic theme park is also included free with your Go San Diego Card! Spend the day riding family friendly coasters, making your own LEGO creations and learning ninja skills at the immersive LEGO NINJAGO World.

Legoland California

Alternatively, you can head to SeaWorld San Diego to admire the beautiful marine life and put your bravery to the test on the thrilling roller coasters. Manta and Journey to Atlantis should be at the top of your list, but be warned, the latter will give you a serious soaking!

SeaWorld San Diego

If you’re not a fan of big coasters, and would prefer something more relaxing on your final day, we’d suggest setting sail on an exciting Whale Watching Tour. Your adventure will begin at Newport Landing, where you’ll journey along the Southern Californian bay in search of gorgeous grey whales. You might even spot some sea lions and dolphins along the way. The knowledgeable crew onboard will be on hand to answer any questions you might have and teach you all about the majestic creatures leaping out of the water before your eyes!

In the afternoon, check out one of the amazing museums included on your Go San Diego Card. There’s 15 to choose from, including the Museum of History & Art, San Diego Natural History Museum and the USS Midway Museum.

End the day with a delicious meal and toast to your holiday. San Diego has a thriving Mexican culinary scene, so we’d recommend indulging in a mouth-watering Mexican meal for your final night. The Old Town Mexican Café is a great place to go for delicious burritos, rotisserie style pork and ‘Old Town Famous Carnitas’.
