One of the most popular tourist attractions in Tenerife is Loro Parque- an incredible zoo that’s actually been voted the best in the world! What is Loro Parque?
Loro Parque is an incredible zoo in Tenerife, spanning over 30-acres. In fact, it has actually been voted the best zoo in the world by TripAdvisor users! Loro Parque actually means “parrot park” in Spanish, and when it very first opened that’s exactly what the park was. Over the years, Loro Parque has massively expanded and is now home to more than 4,000 beautiful parrots, as well as a host of amazing animals. If you love animals and want to get closer to nature, where better than the best zoo in the world?
Book your tickets in advance
It’s a good idea to book your Loro Parque tickets in advance as this will save you lots of time when you arrive and who doesn’t want that? You’ll get a gate-ready mobile ticket, which means you won’t have to wait in a long ticket line and can just walk straight in instead. Your ticket will also be open dated which gives you the flexibility to visit any time during your holiday.
What animals are at Loro Parque?
There are more than 30,000 animals at Loro Parque, so there’s plenty to see during your visit! You’ll be able to get up close to beautiful animals like lions, tigers, panthers, gorillas, hippos, sloths, meerkats and giant tortoises to name just a few. There are also lots of great exhibitions including Planet Penguin, which lets you admire these adorable animals in the largest penguinarium in the world.
Of course, Loro Parque famously began as a parrot park and with more than 4,000 parrots here, there are plenty of colourful creatures to meet.
How to get to Loro Parque
Loro Parque is located in the north of Tenerife and is close to popular holiday resorts like Puerto de la Cruz. Wherever you’re staying, you’ll find that the convenient transport links make it easier for you to get to and from the park. If you're staying on the south of the island, you can get to Loro Parque on a bus transfer service which runs daily from select departure locations. You’ll have to make a reservation 48-hours before to secure a place on the bus which costs approximately €13.50 for adults and €8 for children. Little ones under 5 years old go free.
If you are staying in the north of Tenerife, you can get to Loro Parque easily by taxi. There is also an option to get on the free express train. These trains run every 20 minutes from Plaza Reyes Católicos straight to the park. The first train departs at 9am and the last train of the day leave the park at 4pm.
Things to do at Loro Parque
Loro Parque is a fantastic zoo which means you can expect to see lots of amazing animals, but that’s not all. There are lots of unique areas to explore, like ‘Pueblo Thai’ which is the largest Thai Village outside of Thailand and Katandra Treetops- a spectacular free flight aviary where you can get up close to colourful birds.
There are also several shows you can enjoy at Loro Parque. Our favourite has to be the Loro Show, which features lots of exotic parrots. You’ll be in awe as they swoop over your head and show off their impressive maths skills!
If you want to learn about the fantastic conservation work that Loro Parque carries out, head over to the Animal Embassy, which is an area dedicated to teaching guests the importance of respecting the natural environment and the animals that live in it. You can also visit the Baby Station area inside the Animal Embassy to see the veterinary staff caring for baby parrots.
Places to eat at Loro Parque

What should I bring to Loro Parque?
Top of the list for your visit to Loro Parque should be a camera! There are so many amazing thing to see and you’ll want to capture all of the picture perfect moments on camera so that you can relive them when you get home. If you’re taking pictures on your phone, you’ll be able to share them with all your friends on social media using the park’s free Wi-Fi.
You’ll also want to make sure that you’re wearing comfortable shoes. You’ll be doing lots of walking around exploring the park, so it’s important to choose the right footwear. Pack some sun screen too, so that you’re protected from the sun during your visit.
