Disney’s Tower of Terror to be Rebranded as Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission BREAKOUT!
Things are about to get a little more super-hero around here...
An old favourite at Disneyland California is about to get a brand new makeover! Find out more here...

It was revealed this weekend at San Diego’s annual comic-book fan event Comic-Con that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy would be coming to Disneyland California next summer. The park’s Imagineers aren’t creating a whole new ride though, instead they’re going to be reinventing and refreshing old favourite Tower of Terror into a brand-spanking Marvel-themed attraction. Excited? We are!

Guardians of the Galaxy

If you’re a fan of the Guardians of the Galaxy film, you’ll know that the film has four main protagonists: Peter Quill (or ‘Star-Lord’ when he can people to use his preferred name), lethal warrior assassin Gamora, tree-like humanoid Groot and sarcastic racoon Rocket. If that sounds like an odd bunch of heroes to you, you’re right, but in this crazy inter-galactic film it somehow works! Our heroes are tasked with stopping the powerful Infinity Stone from falling into the hands of the evil Roman, who intends to use it to destroy whole planets as soon as he has it in his possession. Simple, right?

So what is this attraction likely to look like? Well, the name of the attraction is Guardians of the Galaxy – Mission: BREAKOUT! and it will revamp the current elevator drop ride from a hotel setting to a ‘warehouse fortress power plant’ using the same original building that riders will already be familiar with. The ride experience is set in the ‘fortress-like museum of the mysterious Collector, who is keeping his newest acquisitions, the Guardians of the Galaxy, as prisoner.” Judging by the name and this description, it’s not too much of a stretch to imagine that our heroes (and unwitting ride guests!) will have to escape this terrifying fortress and the evil clutches of The Collector when this ride opens next year. The rides creators have promised a whole new narrative that has never been seen before, so it’s a must for Guardians fans.

Who better to tell you about the new ride though, than the team behind the big idea? Check out this video below for more information on the background of the ride and the creative process:

Excited as we are about the setting, the plot and, of course, seeing our favourite characters, our first question had to be: will any of the amazing soundtrack from the first film be included in the attraction? Luckily, the answer is…YES, and it may even be joined by some of the soundtrack from the second film, which opens soon.

The ride in its current Tower of Terror imagining will close in January 2017, with the new Marvel ride zooming into place for summer 2017. To buy tickets to experience this epic new ride at Disneyland California, click here.
