Default Video: UK operators continue to support Kissimmee as hotels reopen

This is an interesting piece from Travel Mole, an interview with DT Minch of Experience Kissimmee. Well worth 20 minutes of your time.

Video: UK operators continue to support Kissimmee as hotels reopen

UK tour operators have reported few cancellations for summer 2020 to Kissimmee in Florida, with the majority of customers opting to postpone their trips instead.

DT Minich from Enjoy Kissimmee said many holidaymakers were moving their holidays to later this year or 2021.

"We are not seeing a ton of cancellations," he said.

Speaking to TravelMole's Graham McKenzie, Minich said UK tour operators had remained strongly supportive of Kissimmee, with none indicating they would pull out or drop hotels due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Most of the city's hotels have reopened, with new cleaning protocols in place, but some bars closed after Florida introduced a ban last Friday on alcohol sales to try to mitigate the rapid spread of coronavirus throughout the state.

Funnily enough, I watched this all the way through this morning, and I have to say I think there is a bit of wishful thinking on the part of Kissimmee right now, as all we are hearing about is villa bookings being cancelled. Next year should be a lot of better (we sincerely hope!) but, in all honesty, this year looks like it is going to be a write-off as far as the UK market to Orlando is concerned

On the 'other' forum more and more people seem to be postponing to 2021, although many would like to go this year.

BTW one of the biggest gripes seems to be that DDP has been cancelled and the prospect of the additional dining cost is putting many people's backs up.

Yes, we're seeing and hearing a lot of that, TF. Sadly, Disney have rather conditioned their visitors in recent years to expect that perk and, when you suddenly remove it, everything is a LOT more expensive. But, in reality, the UK market is not uppermost in Disney's mind right now when Orlando is still largely devoid of tourists of any kind.

What odds they put car parking charges up as well?

It would be monumentally stupid in the current climate. There are already reports that people are spending less (for obvious reasons), and Universal is seeing REALLY low numbers in their parks (and that's without a reservation system). Start squeezing people even more, and they will definitely say 'Enough!'
