And, sure enough, the forecast has been pretty accurate. We are warming up virtually day by day, with the chance we'll be in the low 90sF/33C within the next week. It has stayed very dry after the last downpour, though, albeit we've now had 5.5ins of rain this month when we would normally expect only 2.7ins. The most enjoyable aspect of the weather is the complete lack of humidity, which gives rice to nice cool evenings and mornings when we can have all the doors and windows open and switch the A/C off. This is likely to change as we reach May and reach the 90s on a consistent basis. While we have had a fair bit of rain, it has been a very comfortable month, climate-wise.

Warming up? How about melting down?! Yesterday we hit 91F/33C and it has been the hottest weekend of the year so far, with the prospect of reaching 96/36 in the next few days, just a degree or so short of record temps for this time of year. Not the ideal time to be without a properly-working A/C system (as we are, until we get a new one tomorrow!!).

It is still not especially humid, but the Heat Index still has us pushing 100 for a few days, and that is plenty hot by early May standards. We should cool off a little after Wednesday (May 5), but the rest of the month looks very warm, albeit there is next to no rain in the 14-day forecast. Not a bad time to be here - as long as your A/C works!!

My sympathies regarding the lack of AC, you must be boiling.

Probably "simmering quietly" would be the best comparison!

If we could have figured out a way to waterproof our computers, we'd definitely be there!!

Happily, the A/C company who insisted they could do the job yesterday and could do it in half a day turned up right on time, did the job in half a day, and we now have a brand new A/C system that is like sitting in front of an open fridge door!!!

We also have fancy new thermostats that we can operate from our phone

Which is all just as well, as each day is slightly warmer than the previous one just now, and the humidity is starting to build up (which probably means rain at some point!). Definitely most of the way towards summer at the moment.

A few years ago we arrived at the villa we had booked to fin the AC not working, after a fraught hour or so we booked an hotel and decamped! To be fair the owner had the problem sorted (a faulty thermostat) by 10.00 am the next morning.

Yes, that's the nightmare scenario for many villa owners (and their guests), TF. The A/C systems take such a beating through the hottest months that they do, sometimes, give out. The worst thing is when guests arrive to a slightly warm home, crank the A/C down to around 68F, and then the whole thing freezes up, as it's not meant to operate at such low temps.

We have noticed over the last few years that more villas have big notices about turning the AC down and the last couple we have stayed in have an electronic thermostat that, no matter how much you turn it down, has a minimum value locked. And you canít blame the owners for that!

And today, the weather thinks it must still be April as we've just had the shortest and sharpest of showers! It's still 90F/33C, mind you, but the mix of sun, clouds and the occasional shower is very April-ish.
