Looking back at the whole month, this has been a blisteringly hot August, with record temps at times. We've had 12 days well above average, 16 days around average, and just just 3 below average (all in the past few days as a result of the hurricane cooling things off a touch). Whether that has stopped this being a record hot month for Orlando remains to be seen, but it's probably pretty close.

The last few days have generated almost 3.5 inches of rain, giving us an August total of 8.16, which is almost half an inch above average. If it hadn't been for Idalia, it would probably have been below, though.

As we transition to September, we don't expect to see much change. The average temp should be around 90F/32C, and the 10-day forecast insists we'll be below that to start the new month. As ever, we shall see....

The UK is currently experiencing a scorching September, while it's something of a wet month for Central Florida, with flood warnings this week after some serious rain. September can be a bit of a wet month at times, as we do tend to get some big storms at this time of year (increasingly so), with a usual monthly average of 6.37ins. But we are on course to be much wetter than that after 3.26ins in the first 8 days, almost 2ins of that in a 48-hour period this week. The heavy rain has helped to cool things off somewhat, and more rain is forecast through the next week, so remember those ponchos or umbrellas for the parks!

Normal weather? Pah. Florida laughs at the idea of normal weather.

The last 4 days have all hit 94F/34.5C, with the Heat Index pushing 100/37.5. So, just when you start to think autumn might just be on the horizon, summer roars back and says "Sweat some more!"

Ah, that wacky September weather! Just when you think you've got it pegged, along comes something different. After that return of the full summer heat last week, this week now sees the opposite - a cold front stuck over South Carolina that is bringing a swathe of cool, cloudy and even old-fashioned rainy weather over central Florida.

From last week's 94F/34.5C heat, we now have barely 84/28.5, which is distinctly below average, and a LOT of heavy cloud and wet spells. Still plenty warm for our visitors, but also a welcome "cool-down" for the locals Keep those ponchos and umbrellas handy, though.
