Hopefully you will get a chance to get your pictures at the weekend.
    Stay dry.

OK, since those 2 days of heavy rain and overcast, things have been largely dry in our little corner of Orlando. Temps back up around the 97F mark and it feels every bit of that (in fact, it feels hotter with the humidity; Heat Index says around 105!). Just a few showers to report in the past 6 days, but there HAS been some significant rain and stormy weather both to the north (in Ocala) and south (Polk County). We visited friends in Polk yesterday evening after a largely quiet day weather-wise for us, to find they'd had a major storm (the second in about 10 days) that had briefly knocked out power and left a lot of tree debris on the roads. Just goes to show how localised these tropical storms can be - barely a sprinkling of rain for us and heavy monsoon conditions not more than 20 miles away!

Just goes to show, the weather catches up with you in the end! After 4 days of just the 'normal' brief shower (short but sweet), we had an absolute monsoon deluge yesterday evening. We'd already had a brief heavy shower around 1pm, when the weather started to close in around 6-ish and was in full thunderstorm mode by 7; it lasted almost 3 hours, and was still raining lightly at 11. That was almost 3inches of rain (almost half the monthly average) in just one evening!!

The weather pattern is certainly more set at the moment; temps in the low-mid 90sF and brief, heavy downpours at some stage in the afternoon. We did have one day when the heavy shower and some ensuing overcast dragged the temp right down to 79F, but that is pretty unusual (and it only lasted a couple of hours - although it was nice while it lasted!). Humidity is WAY up as you'd expect with so much rain around.

OK, things have been pretty calm for the past few days, but the prospect of our first major storm of the 2011 hurricane season is on the horizon. Temps continue to be in the 93-94 range and plenty humid, but the hurricane centre is tracking a significant tropical storm, Irene, which looks quite capable of strengthening into a cat 1 hurricane and tracking up through or close to Florida. It is no cause for alarm for Orlando-goers unless it strengthens considerably, and we won't see anything of it here before next Friday, but it is worth keeping an eye on.

We could certainly get very wet for a few days (and we are already close to the monthly rainfall average for August) but it is a bit too early to make any predictions past that at the moment.

    Stay tuned...!

The last 10 days of August passed almost without any notable weather; it stayed hot and humid (but with the humidity tailing off noticeably at the end of the month) and no major storms, not even in the ripples from the passing of Hurricane Ilene. We were slightly above our monthly average for rainfall, and had two days when we had sharp showers that dumped half an inch of rain. But, by and large the weather scene was quiet and temperatures were down in the uppers 80sF,

September has started in similar mood. We had one really heavy sustained downpour but, other than that, a few passing (very) brief showers and just an inch of rain in total. Temps are staying around 88F but dip into the upper 70s by mid-evening (and even during and just after some of the showers). I didn't expect to notice much of a difference this soon after August but things have been really pleasant for much of the time, with none of the ferocious heat and humidity of high summer.

Of course, this IS Florida and it could zoom back up into the 90s at a moment's notice and give us a monsoon even quicker. But, right now, it's an ideal time to be here.

Oh Simon stop tormenting us by saying how perfect the weather in Florida is, we've had heavy rain and high winds today!!! Really could do with a dose
    of Floridian sunshine right now.

It's turned all black and murky here, with hail and rain and thunderstorms and ice and some locusts. Men are running screaming in the streets, mothers are pulling their children away from the awful sight, and the news bulletins are demanding everyone stays inside and eats Pineapple and Golden Raisin Rice Salad.

You wouldn't want to be here. It's hideous.
