Topic: DLP Expected to re-open Wednesday

I must admit I've always thought the security at DLP was pretty good, and on our last visit we saw somebody getting stopped for having a "banned" item in their luggage (I think they must have been checking in at the Disneyland hotel, as they did have a *lot* of luggage to be taking into the parks!). But as Superspur and Susan have both mentioned, it is only the bags that get checked. This time of year you have big thick coats on, and I'm sure we've been guilty in the past of (unintentionally) pushing stuff through on the pushchair which didn't get looked at.

When I was there, they did actually ask people to get out things that were in the pushchairs and put them through the machines. This was the first time I noticed this.

It's very hit-or-miss with the strollers. We've seen them look through everything, and we've seen them ignore everything, even when there are lots of bags. But it's hard to deny WDW's bag check is totally ineffective, overall.

We saw a huge change in the bag checking after the Paris attacks. A man had a blanket stored under his stroller and he was made to go through bag check at Epcot, much to his annoyance.

Also witnessed 2 South American ladies being escorted to bag check at MK on Friday morning as they tried to get into the park without going through bag check. Obviously wanted to avoid the huge queues.

DLP now has the scanners, plus additional security guards and sniffer dogs. The train station is being monitored by 20 armed military (IIRC, they've always had armed military, but I only remember 3 or 4. Does that sound right?). Onsite hotels have also ramped up security, and there is a stronger police presence.

Kudos to the CMs who are keeping the parks festive. They're they real magic in the parks.

The sniffer dogs were already there before the attacks.

From what I'm hearing, they have added to the number as well as the number of security.

Well, I soon should be able to form my own opinion of the new security measures. Hopefully we will head back for a sneaky weekend trip in early March. That annual pass is burning a whole in my pocket.

We were going to go into Magic Kingdom today to get some Christmas photos, but the queue at bag check went on forever. Apparently they're being much more thorough with their checks than before, and have even asked to look in cargo pants pockets.
