Personally I'd want at least 3 nights/ 4 days we did 7 nights on our first trip and without a car that was too long. Our favourite hotel if we're not driving is the New York but also liked Sequoia Lodge which has the benefit of an inside/ outside pool if its hot. If we take the car we've always stayed at Davy Crockett. The caravans (cladded to look like lodges) are quite spacious and were great for the kids to have room to play when we were "at home" and if you book the dining option the breakfast there is nice, the breakfast at the hotels has always been a bit of a bun fight when we've been but then it has always been mid-August. The pool at DC is lovely for children too and we have never found the drive into the park each day to be too much of a problem
The last couple of trips we've booked through visitdisneylandparis.com which represented a significant saving over booking direct. We got the half board dining free last time but I haven't seen that offer lately

It depends on what your budget is and whether you are looking at staying onsite.
We have been extremely fortunate to stay at the Disneyland Hotel 3 times now, mainly due to planning and going when they have had half price discounts on, as it's just crazy money otherwise.
Staying there raises the holiday to another level.

I agree with Elaine a minimum of a 3 night stay, ours have usually been 5 nights.

With real youngsters, staying onsite is definitely a big advantage, being within walking distance. The only Disney hotel we don't like is the Santa Fe, so it does then become a question of your budget. You certainly need 3 full days to see everything, so if you can do a 3-night stay, you'll be pretty well set. Booking dining in advance is also highly recommended, although there are a few walk-in places that are handy to know about (and cheaper), like Earl of Sandwich and the cafe at the station.

Just to add, we found the prices in restaurants eye watering so if buying the dining plan is an option I'd go for it. If you want to use them at a restaurant that the vouchers aren't valid for they have a face value that you can take off the bill which at least reduces the outlay, especially if you've got a good deal on the vouchers

Probably depends on the 4 year old, wrong type of 4 year old and 10 minutes will be too long.
