Margaritaville Resort Orlando

OK, so it's in Kissimmee, not Orlando, and it is running a bit behind schedule (they originally thought they might get it open this winter), but the huge new Margaritaville resort project is firmly under way, and we got our first look at what's in store at the main ground-breaking ceremony last week. The official opening date is Thanksgiving (i.e. November) 2018.

As you drive north up the 429, which runs to the west of the resort, you can see the size of this tranche of land and how much tree and shrub they have cleared away, as well as the demise of Splendid China!!

If the 429 is the road on the left of the picture, underneath the word ORLANDO, then it's not quite accurate as a number of the buildings are quite close to the roadway. And I hope the themeing is good as in May they were shapeless concrete.

It will be interesting to see what impact the Resort has on the traffic on the 192 and on the restaurants at Rolling Oaks, which it borders, once it opens.

The artist rendering doesn't actually take into account ANY of the development around the resort (Animal Kingdom Lodge should be clearly seen to the north, but isn't anywhere in the picture!), so they are taking a somewhat rose-coloured view of the landscape, to say the least. The effect it has on traffic is also a good point, as you would imagine the majority staying here will have cars. But the amount of amenity within the resort should be undeniable, especially with the weater park. Some guests may never leave!

It is certainly on a big chunk of land. It'll be interesting to see how close they get to the renderings once it is done.

Yes, that's the acid test. If they get close to it, it should be a great resort (as the one in Fort Lauderdale is).
