Default Get Your FastPasses for Slinky Dog Dash!

The good news is that Toy Story Land is now open at Disney's Hollywood Studios. The bad news is that Toy Story Land is now open at Disney's Hollywood Studios - and drawing huge queues. The weekend debut of the new Slinky Dog Dash coaster saw wait times of up to 300 MINUTES, while even the Alien Swirling Saucers kiddie ride was at 120 mins. Ironically, the wait time for Toy Story Mania (the existing ride, now incorporated into TSL) was under 100 mins, which is pretty unusual, so it seems most guests are flocking to the 2 new rides.

Those wait times will obviously die down a bit as the initial frenzy wears off, but expect waits of at least 2 hours for Slinky Dog and an hour-plus for the Saucers ride this summer. That means it will be essential to try to get a FP+ for Slinky to ensure you are not standing around in the heat for TOO long. Even though Slinky may SEEM like a kiddie coaster, it isn't, so be forewarned and seek out those FastPasses where possible!

The good news for fans of the Magic Kingdom is that crowds have been MUCH lower there the past few days, which means that pretty much everyone is going to the Studios right now!

While people undoubtedly want to do the new stuff why oh why would you join a queue 300 minutes long? especially if you have children in your group. In that same time you could probably do 2. 3. 4 or more rides/shows elsewhere.

There is a real cult mania around opening day for lands and attractions. A lot of our media friends were there on opening day, even though some were also at the two-day media event (with no queues). It's bragging rights, in some cases, I think. Not our kind of thing, but a lot of locals, off-work Cast Members, and die-hard fans love this sort of thing regardless of queues.

It was astonishing how many guests were waiting around the closed-off entry to TSL at the end of the media event. Paid off for them, as they were allowed in after we all left.

Ok I can see that working for people who are park regulars, I'd not thought of that!

I hadn't thought of that either. When I heard that the queues were that long I just didn't get it, why spend all day lining up? If you are regulars then maybe so. (still couldn't stand that long myself)

To my mind it is just madness to even contemplate queuing that long

Under the old fastpass system we rarely got fastpasses for the new big rides [TSM springs to mind] as we never got to the parks for opening.
I'm ashamed to say, I have only ever done two park openings and two early entries for tours in nearly 30 years of going to the parks

Just shows there are several ways to do things.

Joshua is such an early riser and often we can't get to a park later in the day, park opening is a must for us especially as it's generally cooler and quieter.
To contradict that a bit the Studios historically hasn't been a park we have visited that much, usually an hour or two at the most.
Also getting to MK at just the right time was problematic for us last year, either the monorail broke down meaning we were late or we gave ourselves extra time to counter that and ended up being in the park too early!

TBH, I do both early and late, but our kids weren't early risers and it was better to let them have their sleep.
Hubby is a slave to an 05.30 alarm, so treasures later nights and lazy mornings nd a I love the parks at night, I don't mind.

It's good there are so many options of how to enjoy a Floridian Holiday.

We did di parks at night before he was born and in his younger years, but now it's pretty much impossible. I agree they are great at night and give a whole new look to the parks.
It doesn't detract from our enjoyment overall.
