The iconic Swan Dolphin Resort of the Epcot hotels around the big boardwalk area is going to get a third building, called The Cove, for 2020, and the first construction started yesterday with the official ground-breaking ceremony (complete with special guest!):
The 14-storey hotel will offer an extra 349 rooms, including 151 suites, as well as a lot of meeting space and a rooftop events area.
It will occupy the area just to the south-east of the existing buildings, using the space currently occupied by the tennis courts and next to the Fantasia Gardens mini-golf centre. It will feature:
- Over 22,000sq ft of meeting space, including two ballrooms, 12 meeting rooms, and a rooftop reception space that will offer views of the nightly Walt Disney World fireworks
- 349 guest rooms, including 151 suites that feature separate working and private spaces, built-in AV system, large conference tables, and other features designed for a collaboration space
- Landscaped 16,800sq ft elevated deck with a fire-pit and pool
- A 90-seat restaurant and 50-seat lounge
- Health club, business centre, grab-and-go market, craft cocktail lobby bar and, of course, Disney benefits
This expansion follows the recent $150million transformation of the resort’s guest rooms, lobby areas and meeting spaces. Once the new tower is complete, the resort will offer more than 2,600 rooms and 350,000sq ft of meeting space.
