Dollar car rental in the USA
Got this info, through Travel Mole, that may be of interest to some ATDers hiring cars from Dollar (and Thrifty) in the USA.
New debit card policy for Dollar car rentals in the USA
We wanted to let you know that the Dollar and Thrifty Car Rental brands (owned by The Hertz Corporation) have introduced a new debit card payment policy in the US to make vehicle rental easier for all drivers, by accepting all non-prepayment cards backed by either Visa, Discover or Mastercard.
In addition both brands have lowered the age restriction for debit rentals from 25 to 20 years old in the US.
For rentals booked more than 24 hours in advance, only a debit card and driver's license will be required. Rentals booked less than 24 hours in advance, or rentals for Convertibles, Luxury and Premium vehicles, can still use a debit card but require two forms of identification and proof of return travel plans.
In addition, for rentals paid in advance, Dollar and Thrifty have reduced the incidental hold amount from $350 to $200 (plus any amount of the rental that wasn't prepaid and any additional ancillaries bought at the counter at pick-up).
Debit card payments are available at all valid inbound participating USA locations.
