    Default Recommendations for Naples/Marco Island?

Needless to say, I've read S&S's recent blog post and I've also obsessively Googled, You-Tubed and Trip-Advisored but I'd be interested in any input on things-to-do, places-to-see, restaurants-to-nosh-at and drinks-to-imbibe-of.

We've only been to Naples (and as I've said before it is not my favourite place in Florida), but only for 'day trips'. So can't recommend much other that 5th Avenue shops (where you need deep pockets), Tin City (where you don't!!) and the City Pier, which is great for watching the fishermen, dolphins and sea birds.

For Marco Island, our (very) strong recommendation would be:

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/d...-resort-hotel/

Especially in the new Lanai Tower.

For Naples, it would have to be:

    https://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/d...n-fifth-hotel/

Mainly because it puts you within walking distance of all the great Fifth Avenue bars and dining (but also because it's uber-chic!).

If you want a Naples beachfront hotel:

Since you read the blog, you already know my recommendations for dining are Osteria Tulia (then go through the door into Bar Tulia in the evening) and The French Brasserie Rustique, and our drinks recommendations there. We had a superb meal at Ocean Prime, too.

Old Naples Pub was a great place for live music in the evening, or lunch outside on a nice day. It's a bit rustic, nothing fancy, but we enjoyed sitting at the bar and chatting with the bartender.

I responded to the thread linking your recent R-C review before reading this. We have considered both The R-C Naples and The R-C Golf Resort because my brother and s-i-l are big fans of both but at the moment we're favouring the JW Marriott Marco Island. The Inn on Fifth is a definite contender precisely for the reasons you mention but we keep getting sucked in by all the s****y bars and restaurants at the JWM! And we really like the idea of the Paradise by Sirene adults-only tower. The price needs to come down considerably before it's a realistic option, though. We're pretty confident it will but that could just be wishful thinking.

Wherever we end up staying, an evening on Fifth Avenue South and/or Third Street South is a must-do.

ETA: We feel we have to at least have a drink at Tommy Bahama given that it's the original. In addition to your recommendations, we're also liking the look of Sea Salt (3rd Street) and Sails (5th Avenue).
