    Default Worth Avenue, Palm Beach

    OK, here's another regional blog that looks at some of the more off-the-beaten-track destinations around Florida. This is Worth Avenue in Palm Beach;

    We love the Palm Beaches and just this past week we booked a 3-day stay at West Palm Beach for the second leg of our big 25th wedding anniversary trip next May. As I've mentioned before, were originally eyeing-up the Naples area and we'd set our hearts on the JW Marriott Marco Island Beach Resort but the rates we're seeing at the moment are eye-wateringly high. Judging by prices we were seeing for May this year, there's more than a chance that they'll come down nearer the time but that hasn't stopped us researching alternatives. Several times we've been close to booking The Inn on Fifth in downtown Naples but something is holding us back. We absolutely love the idea of being slap-bang in the middle of all the activity, particularly for the nighttime vibe, and the prices are very reasonable, but we're struggling to imagine staying at a hotel without its own bar. We can't help wondering whether we might end up hankering after the JW Marriott knowing it's so close by. Probably not but it's a consideration.

    We'll be flying into Miami and we'd narrowed down options for our first few nights to a handful of contenders. Searching around for prices last week, I stumbled across a new Autograph Collection hotel due to open early next year in West Palm Beach. The Ben will overlook the Palm Harbor Marina on the opposite side of the Intracoastal Waterway from the Flagler Museum and The Breakers. We booked thinking we'd keep an eye on prices for Marco Island, but the more we've researched the more we can see ourselves at The Ben. Since our last visit to West Palm Beach, several downtown redevelopment projects are coming to fruition. A five-year, $550 million investment has transformed CityPlace—the main shopping area—from a retail and entertainment center to a 'vibrant community and destination' known as Rosemary Square. Nearby, The Ben forms part of the $145M Flaglar Banyan Square mixed-used development project on the former City Hall site. Both areas are aspirational, curbless street projects with plenty of green spaces.

    Nothing's cast in stone yet, particularly as we're still mulling over choices for our first 3 nights. The Ben, though, does gives us the benefit of being in the thick of it, which is what was drawing us to The Inn on Fifth, but without the potential FOMO.

    Oh, and it would be rather remiss of The Telegraph not to provide its readers with a review of The Ben, don't you think?

    I've just found these construction photos for The Ben. You can clearly see both the Flagler Museum and The Breakers.
