Orlando to get new theme park resort
Orlando's newest theme park resort will open its doors in 2023.
Universal parent Comcast announced the opening date of Epic Universe during an earnings call.
It will be Universal's first major park addition since the opening of the Volcano Bay water park in 2017.
The 750-acre park is being built in an area near the Orange County Convention Center and officials say it will generate an extra 14,000 jobs.
Comcast has high hopes for the new park.
"We recently announced we're doing a fourth gate in Orlando in 2023. So we think the theme park business is a great business for us and we're going to be making the investments to try to grow cash flow aggressively in the future," said chief financial officer Mike Cavanagh.
"Six years ago we made about a billion dollars in the theme park business and now we're at about two and a half billion. So the theme parks have been historically one of the fastest growing parts of our portfolio."
Epic Universe will have attractions, hotels, shops and restaurants.
Although concept art renderings were released in August, it hasn't officially disclosed any details on park rides.
