    Default The VelociCoaster

It's WAY past time for this forthcoming new attraction to have its own thread, so here goes, with some of the latest news and insight from Universal on this mind-boggling coaster that is set to debut in 2021.

Today, Universal revealed what the ride's cars will look like:

Once it opens next summer, the VelociCoaster will catapult guests up to 70 miles per hour and more than 150 feet in the air as they join the hunt alongside a pack of Velociraptors.

The ride vehicle will send riders twisting and flying across 4,700 feet of track as they encounter near-misses, launches, 12 seconds of airtime, and more – all with just a lap bar restraint holding them in place.

And here's the sneak-peek video, too:

Here's the other preview video, that provides a bit more insight into what this will look - and feel - like:

This looks absolutely fantastic, not just the ride but the whole area now they have put all the trees back. I saw they were working right over Thanksgiving and ride testing is well underway so I think it may be open at the very start of summer or even what most of us would call spring.
7 Trips to Florida, Christmas in LA, Disneyland Paris twice and odd days here and there.
All my trip reports are now HERE.

That's the 'Top hat' element, TF, and they seem to be all the rage at the moment. Top Thrill Dragster at Cedar Point seemed to start the craze in 2003:

And Kingda Ka at Six Flags in New Jersey went even bigger in 2005:

Now every park seems to have one, including Thorpe Park, with Stealth:

Next year, Orlando will have 2, as SeaWorld's Ice Breaker will have something similar:

The VelociCoaster's 'top hat' will top out at 155ft, Ice Breaker's at "just" 93ft. But Kingda Ka is 456ft!! (PS: I've ridden Top Thrill Dragster - 400ft - and that was quite enough!!).

Here's another great look at the VelociCoaster as it gets closer to opening. It is in full test mode now. This is an evening shot from Bioreconstruct, and it is quite magnificent:
