Default Almost half of insurance policies donít cover strike action

Buying travel insurance is always an important process in the holiday planning at the best of times, but this, from TravelMole, is worth noting.

Almost half of insurance policies donít cover strike action

Nearly half of insurance policies wonít compensate holidaymakers during industrial action, analysis by Which? has found.

The consumer watchdog reviewed nearly 200 policies from 71 different providers.

It found that 40% offer no cover for strike action.

ďWe advise travellers to always check policies carefully to ensure they offer the cover that will be most appropriate to their trip,Ē said Jenny Ross, money editor at Which?.

It leaves thousands of travellers unprotected as summer strikes loom.

EasyJet workers in Spain are expected to strike during July, and over 700 workers at Heathrow voted for walk-outs at Heathrow.

ĎTravellers ďshould ensure theyíve taken out adequate insurance to cover any losses or unexpected costs,í Ross added.

Which? also reviewed cover against Covid-related disruptions.

It found big differences in the level of cover provided.

It found less than 10% offered emergency medical care if they catch Covid, and cancellation compensation if testing positive before a trip.

It wouldn’t cross my mind that losses due to strike action wouldn’t be covered ! Thanks for the information

Ah insurance companies, their whole business model is to take premiums and never pay anything back out if they can possibly help it. Despite having twice been saved several thousands, if not tens of thousands, by medical cover I still hate them.
7 Trips to Florida, Christmas in LA, Disneyland Paris twice and odd days here and there.
All my trip reports are now HERE.
