The latest attraction coming to Alton Towers will be the Alton Towers Dungeon – an attraction which focuses on the grisly history of the area around the theme park. Opening in 2019, The Alton Towers Dungeon will be the 11th Dungeons attraction worldwide and the 6th of its kind in the UK, joining similar attractions in London, Edinburgh and nearby Warwick Castle.
Although very little has been announced so far, fan theories are already swirling about what the new attraction might look like. Other similar attractions take place underground and include a series of different rooms themed around gruesome times in our recent history so the attraction could be themed around the actual history of the land the park is built on, or could be developed with a new twist. The new twist would see the stories behind the attractions being built into the new Dungeons experience – for example a room themed around the Beornen from the Wickerman ride and their gruesome cultish past. Just an idea, but we think it would be amazing!
There have also been questions around where the new ride will sit in the park, with most fans guessing that it will be around the Charlie and the Chocolate Factory attraction, however this has not been confirmed. We’re hoping that the new attraction will be open for the start of next year’s theme park season in March.
