There are few places in the world with such a concentration of film stars as the Hollywood Hills, making it the perfect place for celebrity spotting and meandering around their favourite haunts. But there’s a reason the stars of the silver screen cluster in this area and it’s not just the fabulous houses…it’s for the film sets, and now you can see them too!
A great place to begin your celebrity spotting trip is at Universal Studios Hollywood, where many big films such as The War of The Worlds and The Grinch were shot. Upgrade to the VIP experience and you’ll get your own personal guide to allow you to walk around the sets and inform you about how they are put together to create your favourite iconic scenes. See first-hand the detail that goes into every carefully crafted shot and get up-close exclusive access to behind the scenes information, including the props and costumes department (when it’s not occupied by a shoot!).
The museum at the heart of the park dedicated to everything old-school Universal is also a must-see for film lovers; come within feet of Doc Brown’s original Delorean among other memorabilia from Universal Studios’s 50-year history.
There’s plenty to see on the celebrity trail outside of the parks too. On the Hollywood Walk of Fame you can take that famous shot in the pose of your favourite celeb with their Star, or simply walk in the footsteps of its famous residents. Everyone from Gwyneth Paltrow to Peter Jackson can be found on the Walk and just around the corner at the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre are the foot and hand imprints of some of Hollywood’s biggest film stars. The Chinese Theatre is also an amazing place to soak up the atmosphere during a film screening, with its opulent gold detailing and plush red seats making for the ultimate cinema experience.
If this just isn’t close enough for you, why not try the Movie Stars’ Homes tour? Experienced guides will drive you up to Beverley Hills in an open top bus for a cruise round the celebrity mansions, pointing out their favourite celeb homes and hang outs…who knows, you might even spot someone!
The tour takes you along Rodeo Drive, where all the celebrities do their high end shopping and past a number of hip cafés and restaurants. There’s even a brief stop rounding off the tour to take that all important shot of the Hollywood sign from a convenient vantage point.
