A Guide to Getting Married in Vegas
Vegas wedding guide
With help from the experts, our guide will help you to outline what needs planning with regards to your Las Vegas wedding and stag or hen do.

Asides from the bright lights and Las Vegas attractions, Sin City is also renowned for being the wedding capital of the world, so it’s no surprise that many wish to get married here. Whether you’ve dreamt of getting married in Vegas all your life, or fancy doing something different to the traditional ceremony at home, you’re sure to be catered for no matter your preferences.

So, now that you’ve decided you want to get married in Las Vegas, what’s next?

Initial planning

For those of you who aren’t feeling spontaneous, there is an overwhelming amount of choice when getting married in Vegas, so it is advised that you take your time when planning your wedding. Here, Bridal Spectacular, the ultimate wedding guide for brides to be, has a few tips for getting started.

“Shop around and do your research, visit local websites to get a better picture of what options are available to you. If you plan a chapel wedding they will take care of everything, but if you want a more individualized experience, shop local! There are many local venues who cater to giving you a destination wedding that is not only in Las Vegas but will also make you feel like you are having the intimate wedding you have dreamed about.

Stag and hen do

Aside from weddings, Las Vegas is also renowned for being a superb location for both stag and hen dos. Like with everything in Vegas, the variety of activities that can be done is so vast that you may have a difficult time deciding which to choose!

From a Rockstar Nightclub Tour to Las Vegas Shooting Experiences, you and your closest companions will be able to enjoy unique activities, which would be hard to find in your hometown. Whether you want to let your hair down and celebrate with a few cocktails, or would like to spend some quality time with your guests, there will be an option for you in Las Vegas. You could even watch one of the famous and extravagant theatre shows that Sin City is renowned for, but whichever you choose, you’re sure to have a fantastic time.

Cocktails in Vegas

Before you book anything, expert wedding photographer Alicia Purdum from Orange Soda Photography suggests something to bear in mind when booking your hen or stag do.

“When looking to hire your vendors for your stag or hen do, conduct a little bit of research into the reviews. We are a small town when it comes to knowing people, and if they are not a good vendor, you will find it in reviews.”- Alicia

Organising your license

First, in order to get married in Vegas you will need to obtain a marriage license, which must be presented to both parties by a clerk in a Clark County Marriage Bureau location.

“The marriage license process is quite simple and can be purchased 7 days a week. (The fee is expected to go up in the near future but is currently $60)”– Bridal Spectacular

“Do not wait until the day of your wedding to obtain your marriage license. There is no waiting time to get your marriage license, but you never know how long the lines can be, or how tough traffic can be on the strip.”- Alicia

Also, if you are from Britain, a marriage certificate and an Apostille from the Nevada Secretary of State will need to be presented to the General Register Office upon return to the UK.

This will be one of the most important decisions you make when planning your wedding, as this is where your actual ceremony will take place. From luxury hotel weddings to themed chapel weddings, there really is something for everyone’s tastes, with many weird and wonderful requests also able to be catered for.

Vegas wedding chapel

For example, many couples have embraced romance in Italy-inspired The Venetian Hotel, Resort, and Casino; the Eiffel Tower look-a-like Paris Las Vegas; the medieval Excalibur; the pirate’s cove Treasure Island and the Romanesque Caesar’s Palace to name just a few. Aside from this, there are also numerous golf course resorts, country clubs, churches, casino banquet halls, spacious restaurants, museums, gardens, state parks, and recreational areas which are licensed to host ceremonies.

“Most people initially think that you need to get married in a wedding chapel here in town. The wedding chapels here are fun, quick, very touristy, and often exactly what people wish to have when thinking of running off to Vegas to get married.  However, we also are the capitol of very elegant weddings, from huge elaborate events, to just the couple exchanging their vows to each other. You can get married anywhere in Las Vegas, all you need is a minister to perform the ceremony.” - Alicia

As this will be one of the most memorable days of your life, you will want to ensure that this is captured forever by hiring a photographer. While many venues offer photographers as part of the package, some may not, so it’s important to make sure that you have this covered, which wedding experts at Jet Fete blog highlight below.

“Saying I do in Las Vegas gives you the opportunity to embrace the city, but not just the casinos.  Consider taking a trip with your photographer to the neon sign graveyard for some incredible photos and make some slightly different memories on your wedding day.”- Harmony Walton, Editor of Jet Fete Blog

“Even if you select a chapel wedding with a provided ceremony photographer, consider securing a local photographer to take you out after the ceremony so that you can get unique images at a beautiful Las Vegas location. You will not only end up with photographs you will feel worthy of framing but you will create lasting memories. There are many beautiful outdoor natural beauty locations to be considered which a professional photographer can guide you to.”– Bridal Spectacular

Looking the part

You’ll no doubt want to look your best on your wedding day, regardless of whether you choose to wear traditional clothing. There are numerous hair and beauty salons along the strip, as well as wedding dress and suit shops, with many offering the option to hire too.

A great tip to remember is that if you are getting married in the summer, the weather is likely to be very warm, so you will want to bear this in mind when choosing your wedding outfit. If you do wish to wear a bridal gown, it may be that you buy something to get changed into following the ceremony, or ensure that your dress has no sleeves.

“Hire a professional hair and make-up artist, who will come to your room. It is the one day that you can relax and be pampered, and leave it all to the professionals. You also will look your best for your photos.”– Alicia

Added extras

Why not make your day even more memorable and add a once-in-a-lifetime experience to your day’s schedule. There’s nothing much more romantic than viewing the spectacular Grand Canyon from the sky on a Las Vegas helicopter tour, with the one you love on your special day.
