Universal Beijing Resort has been one of the most widely anticipated theme park destinations in recent years. And today we can finally reveal some of the incredible rides, shows, attractions and dining experiences coming when the park opens in May 2021!
The new resort will be made up of Universal Studios Beijing theme park, Universal CityWalk Beijing and two hotels, The Universal Studios Grand Hotel and the NUO Resort Hotel. And while you’ll see a lot of fan favourites at this new park, the resort will also reflect the richness of China’s unique culture, making it a must-visit destination for any theme park fan.
Inside the park, which is entered via the magnificent Universal Grand Hotel gateway, seven immersive and expansive lands centre around a shimmering lagoon. The new themed lands will include Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness, Transformers Metrobase, Minion Land, The Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Jurassic World Isla Nublar, Waterworld and Hollywood. Each land will be filled with immersive attractions, shows, retail and dining experiences which will thrill and delight guests and fans of these incredible film franchises.
Mr. Tom Mehrmann, President and General Manager of Universal Beijing Resort said of the new resort, “It is the fruit of co-creation, merging Universal’s decades of global theme park experience with our partner’s deep insights on China. Over 100,000 constructors, more than 500 designers and artists, and more than 500 suppliers and partners from around the world jointly made the project possible, and we can’t wait to unveil this dream destination to the world next year.”
So how will Universal Studios Beijing differ from other Universal parks around the world?
The new park will have both a Kung Fu Panda Land of Awesomeness, Minion Land and a Transformers Metrobase which will be brand new and unique to the Beijing park. In the Transformers land, guests can become ‘guest agents’ and join together with the Autobots on incredible rides like the Deceptioncoaster, the resort’s most thrilling and intense ride. As well as this, they can check out Transformers: Battle for the AllSpark, one of the most popular rides in the land, and visit the Energon Power Station to "replenish energy" (that’s eat to you and me!) like a bot.
In Minion Land, guests will be able to explore key locations from the popular films in this one-of-a-kind immersive experience. The signature attraction, Despicable Me Minion Mayhem, in which guests are transformed into Minions and launched into an exhilarating ride through Gru’s laboratory, will be recognisable to fans of the parks in the US
Over in Kung Fu Panda land, guests can go on an adventure with Kung Fu Panda hero Po, fighting against Tian Sha on an exhilarating water flume, Kung Fu Panda Journey of the Dragon Warrior. This area of the park will be great for young guests too.
As well as these new lands, the jaw-dropping detail of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Jurassic Park Land will also be brought to Beijing. Here in Beijing, guests can discover Dumbledore's Office, Defense Against the Dark Arts Classroom, Gryffindor Common Room, and the Room of Requirement at the iconic Hogwarts castle! There is also the iconic Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey ride for guests to enjoy in this fully immersive and interactive land. The beauty and terror of the Jurassic World films are also brought to life with ‘Jurassic World Adventure’, the main attraction in the area where guests will take the All-Terrain Luxury Automatic System (ATLAS) into the wilderness of Nublar Island and embark on an adventure in the turbulent world of dinosaurs, encountering Tyrannosaurus rex, Indominus rex and Velociraptor.
It’s not just immersive lands and insane attractions which set Beijing apart though. Two fantastic new shows have also been revealed for the opening: Lights, Camera, Action! Which will be in the Hollywood Boulevard and the Waterworld Stunt Show. Lights, Camera, Action features two world renowned directors, Steven Spielberg and Zhang Yimou, who effortlessly blend Western and Eastern popular cultures in a behind the scenes look at film special effects. The WaterWorld Show will take place in it’s own unique land and will feature a stunt show of water motorboats, explosions, gun fire and even a plane crash!
In order to create this incredible new resort destination, Universal’s creative team have worked with more than 500 artists from China and around the world to perfect every element of the guest experience. Western and Eastern cultures have been carefully combined to create a Universal Park experience that reflects the cultural heritage of the country. Whether you’re a fan of the parks in the US or new to Universal, this new park will be a must-do for all film fans.
