On July 17, 1955 Walt Disney opened his first Disneyland Park in Anaheim, California after becoming inspired about the idea from a trip to Griffith Park in Los Angeles with his daughters. 60 years on, Disneyland has become one of the most popular attractions on earth, with 16.2 million people passing through its sparkly doors in 2013 alone!
The weekend will start at 6am on the 22nd, with excited guests invited to queue from the evening before. Guests who are present at 2 am will receive a special commemorative gift at the Disneyland Resort Esplanade and will have the privilege of being the first people to admire the park decorations and, most importantly, get on the rides!
To celebrate such a significant mile stone in the park’s history, Disney are putting on a number of special events and competitions for visitors to enjoy over the next couple of months. A fabulous new street-to-sky fireworks show, Disneyland Forever, and a night-time parade will be the highlight events of the celebrations, as Disney have promised much more than the already spectacular Wishes show to round off the days.
New limited edition food and drink items such as the Diamond Anniversary Ice Cream Sandwich will also be available, while Cinderella’s castle will receive a special sparkly makeover especially for the event. The World of Color light show is also receiving a makeover with the new version, hosted by Neil Patrick Harris and Mickey Mouse, a special dedication to the 60th anniversary.
Daily prizes, including a miniature diamond Cinderella slipper and private romantic cruises aboard the Mark Twain Riverboat are some of the additional incentives to get visiting over the next few months!
Best of all is the chance to win a money-can’t-buy stay in the Disneyland Dream Suite, located above the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. The suite is filled with incredible surprises that only the Disney Imagineers could think up, and any winners will be in extremely exclusive company in regards to previous guests!
