The first announcement centred around how there will four 'neighbourhoods’ in the transformed Park: World Showcase, World Celebration, World Nature and World Discovery. These four neighbourhoods speak to the important aspects of the world around us and will aim to spark curiosity and wonder in guests.
New Attractions Coming to World Showcase
The news then moved on to announcements for each individual area, starting with the World Showcase. Excitingly, the UK Pavilion will be getting its first attraction when a new Mary Poppins-themed attraction opens. The new experience will start on Cherry Tree Lane, eventually focusing on the Banks household, where the exciting adventure will begin.
In 2020, the limited-time show ‘Epcot Forever’ fireworks show will close to make way for ‘HarmoniUS’ - the largest ever pyrotechnics display created for a Disney Park anywhere in the world. The new show will celebrate how Disney music unites people all over the world and will be accompanied by custom-built LED panels, lasers, choreographed moving fountains and massive floating set pieces.
Also coming in summer 2020 is the much-anticipated Remy’s Ratatouille Adventure, which will be opening in the France Pavilion at Epcot. On this attraction, guests will be shrunk down to the size of Chef Remy as they race through Gusteau’s Restaurant causing havoc!
That’s not all that’s coming to the France Pavilion though! La Creperie de Paris will also be opening in the same summer, serving up both table and quick service sweet treats. As well as this, there will also be a new Beauty and the Beast sing-along directed by Don Hahn which debuts slightly earlier in January 2020.
Two new 360-degree experiences are also opening in the World Showcase, focusing on the beauty of Canada and China in their respective Pavilions. “Canada Far and Wide in Circle-Vision 360” will debut in January 2020 in the Canada pavilion with new scenes and a new story while in the China pavilion, “Wondrous China” will take guests on a spectacular journey across the country, filmed and presented in a completely seamless 360-degree digital format.
The other three neighbourhoods were formerly known as Future World but will now be divided into 3 areas.
NEW! World Celebration
World Celebration will be home to the iconic Spaceship Earth, which will be updated with new narration and an entirely new musical score. A magical ‘story-light’ will guide guests through the journey, which will be filled with dynamic energy and beauty. As guests leave Spaceship Earth, they will discover a breath-taking new view over World Showcase from Dreamers Point.
There will also be a new pavilion which will provide a home for Epcot’s signature festivals such as Food and Wine and Flower and Garden. The elegant 3-tier structure will be the perfect place to witness Epcot’s latest nighttime spectacular and will be one of the most architecturally beautiful attractions at any Disney Park.
NEW! World Nature
This new land will include the existing The Land and the Seas with Nemo & Friends pavilions and will be joined by two new attractions and experiences. Journey of Water, Inspired by “Moana” will teach guests about the importance of the water cycle via a fun and exciting exploration trail, while a brand new film called “Awesome Planet” will celebrate the diversity of our planet, debuting in January 2020.
NEW! World Discovery
World Discovery is where science, technology and adventure come to life in the form of incredible stories. Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind will be the first “other-world” showcase pavilion at Epcot. The new pavilion will feature Disney’s first story-telling coaster and the first time an attraction at Disney has featured a reverse launch.
There will also be an expansion of the Mission: SPACE Pavilion, with the addition of a new restaurant with panoramic views over the galaxy. Space 220 will feature day and nighttime views of our planet from 220 miles up as you enjoy out-of-this-world dining (get it?). This new restaurant is opening as soon as this winter, so if you’re travelling this year keep your eyes peeled for dining reservations.
And last but not least, the brand new PLAY! Pavilion will open in time for Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary. This new interactive pavilion will help you connect with guests from all over the world through games, activities and experiences. It’s also a whole new chance to meet Disney Characters (real and virtual).
2020 will be here before you know it! Book your Walt Disney World tickets here. There is so much planned for Epcot! Join our ATD Travel Community to discuss the new changes and let us know what you’re most excited for!
