In August at the D23 Expo in Anaheim California, Disney made a few exciting announcements including the unveiling of plans for a brand new Toy Story Land. None were more exciting to Star Wars fans all over the world though than the news that a brand new Star Wars Land would be built at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and Disneyland California! That’s right, a thoroughly immersive themed area based on one of the most popular film franchises of all time that is set to rival the incredible Wizarding World of Harry Potter at neighbouring Universal Studios!
Since the announcement in August, it’s all gone very quiet on the news front from Disney. That was until yesterday, when they announced which attractions would be closing temporarily and permanently to make way for the construction necessary for the new land at Disneyland California.
According to the Los Angeles Times, the attractions that will be closing temporarily include Fantasmic, the Mark Twain Riverboat, the Sailing Ship Columbia, the Pirates Lair on Tom Sawyer Island, the Disneyland Railroad and the Davy Crockett Explorer Canoes. The rides and attractions set for permanent closure are Big Thunder Ranch in Frontierland, Big Thunder Ranch Barbecue, Big Thunder Ranch petting zoo and Big Thunder Ranch Jamboree. These will close their gates for good on January 10, 2016, so if you’re at Disneyland California in the next couple of weeks make sure to check them out before they’re gone!
Check out the map below for a rough outline of where the new Star Wars land will sit in Disneyland California:
While the new Star Wars construction is under way, there’s plenty of new attractions to keep the fans amused. Tomorrowland boasts a brand new Star Wars Launch Bay attraction where fans can meet their favourite characters from the film franchise including, of course, the legend that is Darth Vader himself.
