Yesterday, an apparition at London Kings Cross saw a Diagon Alley replica magically erected in the main train station, all in celebration of the 1 year anniversary of the park area’s opening. We, of course, couldn’t wait to get down there for a photo op and a chance to wear one of those famous scarves…even on a boiling hot July day!
If you did a better job of looking natural in front of the camera, we’d love to see it on our Facebook or Twitter pages! Just use the hashtag #UniversalMoments to share.
So what has made Wizarding World of Harry Potter – Diagon Alley so popular with guests over the last year? The original attraction, Hogsmeade, which celebrated its 5th anniversary recently, had Harry Potter fans tripping over themselves with excitement to get in and the expansion was certainly no disappointment to guests.
The area’s signature attraction, Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts, saw queues of up to 4 hours in the first few weeks of opening, with visitors desperate to recreate the iconic scenes from the films where our heroes crash and twist through the dark caves under Gringotts bank. Queues have, thankfully, since gone down! However, savvy visitors avoid the lines by purchasing a Front of the Line ticket or by staying in one of the Universal Resort hotels and benefitting from the precious extra hour in the park before the main gates open.
Of course, any Potter fans will know that Diagon Alley is actually the place to be for shopping and dining in the Wizarding World. Foodies love The Leaky Cauldron, where hearty British fare is on the menu: bangers and mash, fish ‘n’ chips and scotch eggs in an authentic pub environment...with a twist of course!
If you’re looking for some Harry Potter souvenirs though, we recommend Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes for novelty items, jokes and toys or Ollivanders wand shop for your very own magic wand!
The Ollivanders wand selection show is one of the most popular features of the Wizarding World but what we love the most is the possibility of buying an interactive wand! There are magic points all over Diagon Alley which can only be activated by the interactive wands – a true touch of magic that everyone loves no matter their age. Triggering jokes at Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes, making it rain and causing havoc in Knockturn Alley are just some of the fun things you can do with the wands. It’s these magic touches that bring so many visitors through the bricks of Diagon Alley each year.
