Ever since the brand new King Kong ride at Universal’s Islands of Adventure, Orlando was announced in May last year, Universal have been keeping very quiet about the finer details of the ride.
We knew that it was going to be a 3D experience, utilizing huge wrap-around 3D screens to create the effect of being lost on a mysterious, jungle-covered island and that, of course, ride guests would find themselves in a rather sticky situation with the big man himself but, beyond that, we knew very little.
Today however it was revealed that not only will the new ride use brand new, multi-dimensional and innovative ride technology but will also be one of the longest ride experiences available at the park. To guide guests through this longer ride time, a powerful storyline is absolutely crucial, so we’re glad to hear the ride’s designers have got a corker for us!
Guests start the ride on the seemingly innocuous Skull Island (although maybe we should take a hint from the name?) taking a tour with the 8th Wonder Expedition Company, a research team taking you on an exciting tour of the island on the hunt for prehistoric creatures and undiscovered beasts. As you proceed with the tour, an ominous drum beat and the discovery of an ancient shrine demonstrating that you’re not alone encourage you to turn back but – too late! – you’re already deep into the jungle and there’s no going back now.
You are ushered onto a specially designed expedition bus, which drives you deeper into the jungle and to an enormous temple wall, which slides aside to reveal a labyrinth of dark and spooky caves. Inside the caves you meet your tour guide and, with him, find yourself in the midst of a terrifying struggle for power between unknown and ferocious creatures. As the ominous drumming gets louder, it’s clear, Kong is near…but will you live to tell the tale?
The new Skull Island: Reign of Kong ride opens in the summer of 2016 at Universal’s Island of Adventure. To get ahead of the game, book your tickets for a summer of fun in Orlando right here.
