Following the recent announcements of a new King Kong attraction, a partnership with Nintendo, the arrival of dinosaurs at Islands of Adventure and a brand spanking new water park, we thought the creative juices over at Universal would be almost out. How wrong we were!
This week it was announced that on the site of the old NASCAR Sports Grille, Universal are to build the first ever NBC Sports themed restaurant, and what a place it looks set to be! Sports fans will be in their element, with close to 100 HD TV screens showing top sports from all corners of the globe, including some utterly enormous screens on the outside. British visitors will also be pleased to note that the football (we can’t bring ourselves to call it soccer) seems to be getting as much prominence as the domestic sports.
However, it isn’t just a place to enjoy watching live sporting action, this place has a couple of great tricks up its sleeve that are unlike anything else in Orlando.
First up, the beers. Oh the beers. Guests will be able to choose from over 100 (yes, one hundred) varieties, and with America now producing some amazing small batch beers from craft breweries, we’re expecting to encounter some incredible tastes. The most difficult thing here will be choosing what to have. Top tip though, Americans tend to take their beer seriously, so tell the bartender what you like and let them surprise you. It also seems that Butterbeer isn’t the only exclusive beer at Universal, for there will be an exclusive draft that can only be enjoyed here.
If you’ve had a long day in the parks or a few hours working your way through the beer menu, then you’ll be ready for some food, and once again you’re spoilt for choice. With more than 75 items ranging from classics like burgers and steaks, to custom creations like the utterly incredible sounding crab scotch eggs, you’re sure to find something to satisfy the fussiest and most adventurous appetites.
The NBC Sports Grill & Brew is set to open in the autumn and follows on from the new venues that opened last year, helping to once again cement CityWalk as one of the hottest spots in town.
It also shows that the parks are keen to grow their additional attractions, with Disney currently carrying out a huge project to transform Downtown Disney into Disney Springs, these two parks have clearly got rivalries that extend beyond the tallest castle!
