1. The Art
As you can probably tell by the name, Disney's Art of Animation is all about art. The incredible theming runs throughout the entire hotel, sharing the beauty of animation with the guests. As soon as you walk into the Animation Hall lobby, you’ll see an entire wall covered with Disney sketches. Look closely and you’ll notice that the first drawings are early design concepts for Disney movies (you’ll see a very different looking Ursula from the Little Mermaid). As you go further, the sketches become more detailed and colourful as the designs develop, and you’ll start to recognise lots of familiar faces.
At the end of the lobby is a spectacular storyboard chandelier with original drawings from some of the most popular Disney movies including The Lion King, Cars, The Little Mermaid and Finding Nemo. Some of the drawings have even been signed by the cast and filmmakers, so why not see how many you can spot?
Everything about this hotel is bright and colourful and the décor really is impressive. We’d recommend spending some time exploring the grounds as there’s so much to see. There’s separate areas inspired by the Little Mermaid, The Lion King and Cars, with larger than life sized models of Crush, Rafiki, Ariel, Lightning McQueen and much more. There's 2,500 figures in total!
2. The Pools
Did you know, this amazing hotel is home to the largest resort pool at Walt Disney World? The main pool is called ‘The Big Blue Pool’ and is inspired by the popular Finding Nemo movie. There’s lots of theming surrounding the pool area, and it’s designed to make you feel “shrunk down” to the size of Nemo and his pals.
One of the things we love most about this pool that really makes it stand out from the rest, is its incredible music. What’s so incredible about it? Well, you have to go underwater to hear it! That’s right, there’s a high-tech underwater sound system that lets you listen to classic Disney songs while you swim!
There’s also the Cozy Cone Pool (inspired by the movie Cars) which invites you to make a splash, surrounded by life-size models of Doc, Sally, Mater, Lightning McQueen and more. The Flippin’ Fins Pool immerses you into the story of The Little Mermaid as you listen to music from Sebastian under the water- or should we say under the sea?
3. The poolside bar!
While the kids enjoy splashing around in the pool, the big kids can enjoy the Drop Off Pool Bar. Sit back, relax and cool down from the Floridian heat with a refreshing frozen cocktail (or two!). Our favourites are the ‘Pina Colava’ and the ‘Mango Margarita’- topped with passion fruit-mango foam. You can also get beer, wine and sangria- perfect for relaxing on those sun loungers!
4. The Pixel Play Arcade
The Pixel Play Arcade is full of family-friendly video games to keep you entertained. It’s open 24-hours a day, which means you can fit in a quick gaming session whenever you like- even after a long day at the parks. There’s air hockey, racing cars, pinball, Guitar Hero and Pac-Man to name just a few. You can even go head to head with your friends and family, in a tense dance off! You’ll need to load some money onto an arcade card to get started, with games costing as little as $1.
5. Movies Under the Stars
Watching Disney movies is probably what started your love of all things Disney. So, where better to enjoy a classic Disney movie, than at the Walt Disney World Resort? Movies Under the Stars is a special outdoor screening which takes place at the hotel most nights of the week. It’s completely free to attend and you’ll be able to enjoy some of your favourite Disney movies like The Princess and the Frog, Aladdin and Monsters Inc. Movies start at 8pm, but we’d recommend getting there a bit earlier if you want to get the best viewing spot.
6. The Themed Rooms
Staying in a themed room, is a great way to make your holiday even more memorable. Disney’s Art of Animation hotel has standard rooms inspired by The Little Mermaid which can sleep up to 4 guests, as well as larger suites that are perfect for families. The suites are themed on either The Lion King or Cars, sleeping up to 6 guests. All suites are themed to make you feel a part of the story, with lots of little touches to remind you of your favourite movie.
Each suite is equipped with a kitchenette and a pull-down table, so that you can enjoy meals together when you’re not in the parks. This will come in handy if you feel like making the most of the hotel’s in-room pizza delivery service!
