Toy Story Land is the newest expansion at Walt Disney World, spanning over 11-acres at Disney’s Hollywood Studios Park. If you’re a Toy Story fan (who isn’t?) you’ll be in your element, exploring the colourful world of Andy’s backyard. There’s so much to see, but these are the 6 things you absolutely must do during your visit…
1. Ride Slinky Dog Dash
Slinky Dog Dash is one of the new rides at Disney’s Toy Story Land and as you can probably guess from the name, it’s all about the loveable Slinky dog! Andy has created this unique, family-friendly coaster himself from his mega coaster play kit. Get ready to climb onto the back of Slinky and race around the track, as his coils twist around curves, hills and exciting drops! This amazing new ride is a must try so make sure it’s at the top of your list.
Top tip- There are two more attractions in Toy Story Land- the brand new Alien Swirling Saucers and the fan favourite Toy Story Mania. Try them all if you want to get the full Toy Story experience.
2. Meet the gang
A visit to Toy Story Land wouldn’t be complete without meeting your favourite characters, so make sure you’ve got your autograph book and camera at the ready! Woody, Buzz Lightyear and Jessie will be meeting guests every day and there might even be a few surprise appearances from the rest of the gang!
3. Treat your taste buds
When you’re feeling hungry, head over to the new quick-service kiosk 'Woody’s Lunch Box'. Whether it’s breakfast, lunch or dinner you’re after, you’ll find lots of tasty snacks here, including some Toy Story-themed specialities. Start the day with a hearty breakfast bowl filled with potato barrels, scrambled eggs and smoked brisket, or treat yourself to something sweet like the s’mores French toast.
For lunch, there’s a smoked turkey sandwich, three-cheese sandwich, vegetable macaroni salad, tomato-basil soup and delicious “totchos” covered with beef chilli and shredded cheese. One of our favourites has to be the mouth-watering BBQ brisket melt. It’s made with sliced, smoked brisket, melted cheddar & Monterey jack cheese and tangy BBQ sauce, served on thick sourdough bread.
Woody’s Lunch Box also serves traditional soda floats which are perfect for when you want to cool down from the Floridian heat. If you’re looking for something that looks like it’s come straight out of the movies, go for the “mystic portal punch”- it’s made up of refreshing lemon-lime and tangerine flavours and you can even get it in a souvenir alien cup!
4. Play Sarge Says
Throughout the day, you’ll spot lots of familiar faces at Toy Story Land. When you least expect it, you’ll see the Green Army Men marching through the park. Of course, the Sarge is in charge and he’ll be leading a game of “Sarge Says”.
That’s not all though. If you think you’re up to the challenge, you can take part in an interactive boot camp where the Green Army Men will put you to the test to see if you’ve got what it takes to be their next recruit! This is one that the kids (and big kids!) will love.
5. Take LOTS of pictures
Toy Story Land looks picture perfect and with so much to see, you’ll want to take lots of photos so that you can remember it all. One of the best places to snap a selfie is underneath the 20-foot-tall figure of Sheriff Woody. This is where you’ll enter Toy Story Land, and if you get the sign in the background, you’ll get the perfect shot. You’ll also see huge figures of Rex, Jessie and Buzz throughout the land, as well as singing penguin Wheezy.
Toy Story Land is designed to look like Andy’s backyard, and you’ll notice that everything here is super-sized. This is to make you feel shrunk down to the size of one of Andy’s many toys. Spend some time exploring the colourful land and taking pictures of the unique, quirky elements all around you.
6. Stock up on souvenirs
If you’ve been to Walt Disney World before, you’ll know that Minnie Mouse ears are one of the most popular souvenirs. Well, in Toy Story Land you can find Toy Story-inspired headbands and if you’re a huge fan, these are a must buy! There are also lots of Toy Story t-shirts, bags, mugs and collector pins which are great for gifts or a nice memento to take home.
