While it might still seem like a galaxy far far away, Disney have just revealed that their new Star Wars themed land will be open to the public in 2019! This is the first time that Disney have confirmed an opening date since announcing plans for the expansion back in 2015. So, that means we can start getting excited, right?
The announcement came yesterday from Disney CEO Bob Iger during the Walt Disney Company Q1 FY17 Earnings call. If you haven’t heard much about the new Star Wars land (where have you been?), here’s what you need to know…
Disney have already begun construction on not just one, but two Star Wars inspired lands- one at the Disneyland Park in California and one at the Hollywood Studios park at the Walt Disney World Resort.
Spanning over 14-acres, this will be the largest ever single-themed land expansion at the resort! The never-before-seen planet is set to be out of this world, with plenty of exciting attractions, character meet and greet opportunities and spectacular theming throughout that will immerse guests into the Star Wars galaxy.
Meet the famous heroes and villains you’ve seen on screen, and watch in awe as their iconic stories come to life. Ever dreamed of taking flight in the Millennium Falcon? Well, now your dreams can become a reality as you step inside the legendary spacecraft.
The Millennium Falcon ride will be the area’s signature attraction, and you’ll actually be able to fly it as you take control and become the pilot! Disney have also promised an “epic Star Wars adventure that puts you in the middle of a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance”.
As well as several amazing attractions, there will be a Star Wars street market to explore, and a table service restaurant offering unique food and drink. Look out for Stormtroopers on patrol and a few surprise appearances from droids and even aliens!
