Did you know, that when you book Disney tickets, you’re entitled to book 3 FastPass+ reservations per day for FREE? That’s before you even leave home! Booking a FastPass+ reservation means that on the day, you’ll have a one-hour slot where you’ll be able to use the special FastPass+ lines which will save you time waiting in line (because who likes to queue?!).
FastPass+ isn’t just for the rides though, you can also reserve special seating for popular shows and the dazzling night-time fireworks and skip the queues at exciting character meet and greets. With so many amazing attractions to choose from it can be hard to know where to start, that’s why we’ve put together a handy park by park guide to help you decide which attractions you should use your FastPass+ reservations for…
Disney’s Animal Kingdom:
Avatar Flight of Passage
Along with Na’vi River Journey, this is one of the newest rides at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. While we’re sure you’ll want to try them both out, Disney’s FastPass+ system will only let you choose one of the new Avatar attractions and we’d strongly recommend using it for Avatar Flight of Passage. We got the chance to test the ride out and it really is out of this world!
Riders are paired with an Avatar, before flying high above Pandora on the back of a banshee! You’ll swoop into the rainforest and smell the plants around you, before soaring over the ocean and the iconic floating mountains. The incredible technology puts this at the top of our list. Trust us when we say you won’t want to miss it! Queues can reach up to 2 hours at peak times, so it’s worth using your FastPass+ for this.
The good news with Disney’s Animal Kingdom is that all of the park’s attractions (except the Avatar attractions) are in tier 2. This means that you’ve got plenty of choice for your FastPass+ reservations. One of the standout attractions (and one we think is worth using FastPass+ for) is Expedition Everest. This adrenaline-fuelled adventure sends you hurtling 80-feet down the base of a cursed mountain as you try to avoid the wrath of the Abominable Snowman. Queues can sometimes reach 60 minutes, so it’s a good idea to use FastPass+ if you want to cut your wait time down.
Disney’s Hollywood Studios:
Twilight Zone Tower of Terror
This is one of the park’s most popular rides and one of the most iconic attractions at Walt Disney World! A visit simply wouldn’t be complete until you’ve tried it. The great thing is, this ride is a tier 2 attraction, so you can use your FastPass+ for this as well as the park’s other top rides like Rock ‘n’ Roller coaster. Those who are brave enough to enter the haunted hotel will come face to face with some of the terrifying hotel guests of the past. You’ll enter a rickety old elevator before being plunged into total darkness. Prepare to race up to the 13th floor and back down again when you least expect it, before the doors fling open and you get a view of the entire park!
Disney’s Memory Maker is included with your Disney park tickets. After you’ve experienced the Tower of Terror make sure you log in to your My Disney Experience account to see a video of yourself on the ride!
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster
Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster is another popular ride at Disney’s Hollywood Studios and one that thrill seekers are sure to love. Before you board, you’ll see the stars of Aerosmith in the recording studio. They’ve offered you backstage passes for their concert, but if you don’t leave soon you’re all going to be late.
Luckily a super stretch limo is on standby to take you there. Prepare to speed off into the night as you go from 0-60mph in just 2.8 seconds! You’ll race along the Los Angeles freeway in the darkness as the sound of Aerosmith tunes blast through the speakers. If you fancy yourself as a bit of an adrenaline junkie then we’d definitely recommend using FastPass+ for this ride as there can often be long queues.
Toy Story Mania
Toy Story Mania is another great ride to consider using FastPass+ for, but unfortunately, this is in the same tier as Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster, so you’ll only be able to use FastPass+ for one of these attractions. If you’re visiting with little ones, it might be a good idea to go for this ride, as the high-speed of Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster could be a bit much. Don’t worry though, Toy Story Mania is a ride that big kids will love too! You’ll have to compete against one another in a 4D shooting game featuring all your favourite Toy Story characters, to see who will get the highest score.
You might find it slightly harder to decide which FastPass+ reservations to make at Epcot, as several of the park’s most popular attractions are in the same tier. Frozen Ever After, Soarin’ Around the World, Test Track and Illuminations are all in tier 1, so you won’t be able to choose more than one of these attractions, but you can match them with any other attraction at the park. Here’s some of our favourites…
Frozen Ever After
If you’re a Frozen fan, or are travelling with little ones, this really should be at the top of your list. Frozen’s incredible popularity means it’s a good idea to make a FastPass+ reservation for this ride, as queues can easily reach up to 90 minutes at peak time. Your FastPass+ reservation will give you a set time to head to the ride and your wait time will be cut down considerably. Who doesn’t want that?
Afterwards stop by the Royal Sommerhus where you can meet Anna and Elsa for yourself. You can’t use FastPass+ to meet the sisters, but if you time it right (we went in the evening), you shouldn’t have to wait too long.
Test Track is one of the fastest rides at Walt Disney World, reaching speeds of up to 65mph! Of course, like with any popular attraction, you can expect there to be queues, and Test Track is no different. If you’ve got a need for speed, put this at the top of your list and make a FastPass+ reservation. Buckle up in a 6-passenger Chevrolet vehicle and prepare to race around the track in a high-octane adventure.
Soarin’ Around the World
Soarin’ is a fan favourite at Epcot and it’s recently undergone a transformation to make it even more incredible than before. The attraction makes you feel as though you’re flying, taking you all over the world. You’ll fly over some of the most famous landmarks on the planet, like the Great Wall of China, the Sydney Opera House, the Taj Mahal and much more. If you’re not a fan of the high-speed attractions, we’d recommend using your FastPass+ for this instead.
There are more FastPass+ attractions at the Magic Kingdom than any other Disney park. This can make it harder to decide which to choose, so let us help you out…
One of the most famous rides at Walt Disney World and one of our favourites! Space Mountain is a fun roller coaster adventure that takes place in the dark! That’s right, you’ll race through outer space in total darkness, facing plenty of twists, turns and big drops. Look out for dazzling shooting stars, meteors and streaking orbs of light. We guarantee this is one you’ll want to ride over and over again! This is an extremely popular ride, so this is a good one to use your FastPass+ for.
Seven Dwarfs Mine Train
This is one of the newer rides at Magic Kingdom, so if you haven’t visited in a few years, you might want to add it to your list. The attraction is designed to be a “starter coaster”, which means it’s a good ride for introducing little ones into the world of roller coasters. The low height restriction means lots of people can ride it, making it a popular choice for families. This also increases the queueing time though, which can often reach the 90-minute mark. If you want to give this ride a go, we’d strongly recommend using FastPass+ to reduce your wait time.
Princess Fairytale Hall
Even though this isn’t a ride, it’s one of the most popular attractions at the Magic Kingdom by far. This is the place where you can meet the Disney princesses you’ve always dreamed of. As you can imagine, lots of other park guests will want to have their photo taken with the princesses, so you can expect to wait a while to get in. That’s why we recommend using FastPass+ for this unforgettable character encounter. You’ll be able to get autographs and chat to the likes of Rapunzel, and Princess Tiana to name just a few.
- Book your FastPass+ reservations as early as possible- If you’re staying on-site at a Disney Resort Hotel you can make your selections up to 60 days in advance. Those who are staying off-site can make reservations from 30 days in advance.
- Use all of your reservations- Before you even arrive in Orlando, you can make 3 reservations per day. We’d recommend using all 3 so that you’re getting the most out of your Walt Disney World holiday.
- Book some more- Once you’ve used all 3 FastPass+ reservations, you can book another using the park’s free Wi-Fi. Once you’ve used that one, book again and so on!
- Don’t book your FastPass+ too early- We always recommend getting to the parks as early as possible, as this is when they will be quietest. You’ll be able to get on a couple of the rides straight away, without long queues and without using FastPass+. That’s why it’s a good idea to book your first FastPass+ for mid-morning, so that you’re not wasting them when the parks are already quiet.
- Remember, FastPass+ isn’t just for the rides- You can also make reservations for shows, character meet and greets and the night-time firework shows.
