Rivers of Light Opening Date Announced!
Coming soon
The opening date for Disney’s brand new Rivers of Light show has finally been revealed, and there’s not long to wait…

Last year, Disney introduced a host of new night-time experiences at the Animal Kingdom, which saw the park come to life after dark. Kilimanjaro Safaris and Tree of Life Awakenings, were just a few of the exciting attractions that transformed the Animal Kingdom into a day-to-night park. The spectacular ‘Rivers of Light’ show was originally intended to make its debut alongside these attractions last spring, but unfortunately the show was postponed. However, we can now reveal that the wait is almost over, as Disney have just announced that the highly-anticipated attraction will open this week on 17th February! If you haven’t heard much about the show, here’s what you need to know…

Rivers of Light Disney's Animal Kingdom

Rivers of Light is more than just a show- it’s a celebration of all living things and the connection between animals and humans. Unlike anything you’ve ever seen before, this spectacular show is not to be missed! Watch in awe as elaborate barges glide along the Discovery River against a backdrop of vibrant colour. Packed with mesmerising special effects, the show features live performers, drifting lotus blossoms, over 100 beautiful floating lanterns, soaring fountains and animal imagery that’s projected onto giant curtains of water! Sounds pretty impressive, right?

The show begins as a swarm of glowing fireflies swoop above the river. Mysterious shapes in the distance start to transform into animal spirit forms. Look out for tigers, turtles, elephants and owls to name just a few, as you’re transported across Asian jungles and African savannahs. You’ll discover the stories of the beautiful creatures without a single word being spoken. Instead, you’ll learn each story through the powerful river display that sees Eastern festival traditions and innovative technology come together in breath-taking fashion.

Get ready for the action as you take a seat in the custom-built Discovery River Amphitheatre, which Disney have unveiled today. The theatre will offer much more than just a place to sit back and watch the show, as it will actually become a part of the story. Discovery River splits it in two, to form two separate villages- ‘The Serka Zong Marketplace’ and the ‘Discovery River shoreline’. Each village is decorated with incredible attention to detail and takes inspiration from Nepalese culture. Look out for painted Lotus flowers (a symbol of enlightenment), hanging lanterns, garlands and bells throughout.

Here’s a sneak peek of what’s in store…

Disney’s Animal Kingdom will be expanding even more, when Pandora-The World of Avatar opens on 27th May. With an exhilarating Banshee ride (Avatar Flight of Passage) and an adventure through a bioluminescent rainforest (Na’vi River Journey), there’s more to see than ever before.
