1. Use Disney’s FastPass+ for Avatar Flight of Passage
Avatar Flight of Passage is part of the new Pandora- The World of Avatar expansion. This ride really is incredible (trust us, we’ve tried it!) and a visit wouldn’t be complete until you’ve experienced it. This ride has been hugely popular ever since it opened in 2017 and queues can often reach up to 2 hours long! Don’t worry though, if you make a FastPass+ reservation for this attraction, you’ll be able to skip the regular line. Disney’s FastPass+ service is included with our theme park tickets and you can start making reservations 30 days before your holiday (or 60 days if you’re staying at a Disney Resort Hotel).
2. Look out for Characters in their Safari Gear
Disney’s Animal Kingdom park is great for meeting characters. Not only will you get the chance to meet characters you won’t find at the other Disney parks- like Rafiki, Pocahontas and Russell & Dug from UP, you’ll also be able to have your photo taken with classic Disney characters dressed in their safari outfits. So, make sure you've got your camera at the ready.
3. Use the Single Rider Line for Expedition Everest
Expedition Everest is a popular ride, which means you might have to wait a while in line when the park gets busy. If you can’t manage to get a FastPass+ reservation, using the single rider line is the best way to cut down queuing time. If there are only adults in your group, this is a great option.
4. Don’t Forget About the Shows
There are lots of great shows you can enjoy throughout the day. We’d suggest picking up a park map when you arrive and checking the schedule so that you don’t miss out. The Festival of the Lion King is a breath-taking 30-minute show, featuring appearances from your favourite characters and classic songs that you’ll instantly recognise.
Another must-see show is Finding Nemo- The Musical. This is the first time Disney has ever turned a non-musical animated feature into a musical production, so it’s well worth seeing.
Rivers of Light is a spectacular night-time show that takes place on the river, with huge, colourful lanterns, mesmerising special effects and an original musical score. For a show that features some familiar faces, check out UP! A Great Bird Adventure- the park’s newest show. Russell and Dug are joined by some feathered friends as they teach you all about bird watching.
5. Treat your Taste buds
Animal Kingdom has lots of exclusive eats worth trying. There’s a huge variety of food inspired by Africa and Asia, so when you’re ready for a break from traditional theme park food, this is the place to go. We’d recommend the African spice-rubbed ribs, honey chicken, Gyro beef or the Ahi tuna nachos. When it’s time for dessert, try the fried wontons that are served with cream cheese and fresh pineapple. Make sure you try as many snacks as possible- you’ll regret it if you don’t!
For something really special, try Tiffins for a delicious evening meal.
6. Book a Breakfast Reservation
Breakfast is another great way to sample the fantastic food at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, but that’s not the only reason we suggest coming here for breakfast. The reason this is one of our top tips, is because if you book an early breakfast reservation before the park opens, you can head straight to your favourite attractions before the park opens to the public and can avoid waiting in line! We love the character breakfast at Tusker House because the food is great and it's hosted by Donald Duck.
7. Make Time to see the Animals
There are more than 1,700 beautiful animals that call this place home. Make sure you spend enough time admiring these amazing creatures as there are so many to see, from huge hippos to tall giraffes and even the King of the jungle. One of the best ways to see the animals in one go is on Kilimanjaro Safaris. This fun attraction takes you across the savannah in an expedition truck, while an experienced guide tells you everything you need to know about the animals.
8. Visit Pandora Twice
Because once definitely isn’t enough! Pandora- The World of Avatar is the park’s newest area, spanning over 12 acres. The stunning land is impressive at any time of day, but when night falls, it comes to life with hundreds of dazzling bioluminescent plants illuminating this magical world. Everything around you glows, even the floor! To see Pandora in all it’s glory you really must visit during the day and again at night.
