The first few months of the year are great for visiting Orlando, as the theme parks are much quieter than peak season, meaning less time waiting in queues and more time racing around the track on the thrilling rollercoasters! As well as all the amazing rides, spectacular shows and character meet and greet experiences, there’s plenty of special events that you’ll be able to enjoy if you’re visiting in March. Here’s our pick of the best events you might want to fit into your holiday itinerary…
Epcot International Flower and Garden Festival:
Epcot is about to get a colourful transformation, when the International Flower and Garden Festival returns on 1st March. Bursting with vibrant blooms, lush gardens and over 100 extraordinary Disney-themed topiaries, the park looks even more picture perfect during this amazing celebration of spring. We’d recommend spending some time exploring the park to see which characters you can spot in their extraordinary topiary form. Look out for the likes of Anna & Elsa, Mickey & Minnie, and Beauty & the Beast to name a few.
If you’ve got a passion for gardening and want to pick up some handy tips and tricks, there’s a variety of ‘how-to’ demonstrations, inspirational exhibits and behind the scenes tours, where you can get advice from the experts. It’s not all about the greenery though, the ‘Garden Rocks Concert Series’ brings you live entertainment from famous artists like The Pointer Sisters, STARSHIP featuring Mickey Thomas and The Spinners, while Outdoor Kitchens in the World Showcase have plenty of mouth-watering food to try.
When? 1st March-29th May
Universal’s Mardi Gras spectacular is considered the party of the year, and this year’s celebrations are bigger, better and more extravagant than ever. Running for a record-breaking total of 50 nights, the party lasts until 25th March. If you’re visiting Orlando during this time, you won’t want to miss out. Join in the Mardi Gras bead catching tradition as colourful, elaborate floats glide through the streets.
A series of live performances from some of the biggest stars from the worlds of pop, rock, R&B and country will take place on the Music Plaza Stage, and admission is included with your theme park tickets. Sing along to classic hits from artists like Olivia Newton John, Jason Derulo and Earth, Wind & Fire. You can also enjoy authentic New Orleans brass bands direct from Louisiana in the French Quarter Courtyard, as well as delicious Cajun cuisine like jambalaya and beignets.

The LEGO Batman Movie Days:
March is all about the legendary Batman at LEGOLAND Florida! The park invites you to “come and meet Gotham City’s caped crusader” during this incredible celebration of the new Warner Bros film. You’ll even be able to meet and take photos with LEGO BATMAN! Watch in awe as the Master Model Builders are hard at work creating a 7-foot-tall model of the LEGO Joker and get creative yourself, by helping to build an enormous mural inspired by the adventures of LEGO BATMAN. Little ones will love the chance to participate in a LEGO Bat-signal scavenger hunt throughout the park, and there’s even the chance to win a special prize.
When? 4th, 5th, 11th, 12th March
Seven Seas Food Festival:
Get ready to set sail on a taste adventure! SeaWorld’s all-new Seven Seas Food Festival combines amazing food with incredible live performances from world-famous artists like the Commodores, the Village People and Lynyrd Skynyrd. There’s so much food to choose from, with a variety of creative and flavoursome Asian, Latin, European, Polynesian and Middle Eastern dishes. With so much choice, it can be hard to decide, but we’d recommend the grilled steak with chimichurri or the Korean beef tacos, followed by the Bingsu salted vanilla ice cream topped with caramel popcorn for dessert. Choose from over 40 craft brews to quench your thirst afterwards.
When? Running each Saturday through to 13th May
Disney After Hours:
If you’re visiting early March, there are still tickets available for Disney After Hours. This magical event lets you explore the Magic Kingdom after dark, as you get the chance to see the park like never before. You’ll have 3 exciting hours from 9pm-12am to enjoy character meet and greets and ride some of the park’s most popular attractions in the dark! With a limited number of guests, you’ll be able to benefit from little to no waiting time on 25 popular attractions including, Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, Peter Pan’s Flight, It’s a Small World and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad to name just a few. After working up an appetite on the rides, enjoy complimentary popcorn and ice cream treats.
The separately ticketed event debuted last year and was such a hit, that it’s returned for its second year. There’s not long left to experience Disney After Hours though, as the event finishes on 9th March.
When? 2nd and 9th March
Sneak peek of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast:
There’s just a few weeks to go until the release of Disney’s new live action Beauty and the Beast movie. Fans of the classic have been eagerly anticipating the new movie, and if you can’t wait until the 17th March when it’s released, you can get a sneak peek at the 'Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream theatre' at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. The 8-minute preview will get you even more excited as you relive the iconic story. That’s not all though, you’ll also be able to get an up close look at a selection of props and costumes that were actually used in the new movie. Listen out for the songs you know and love, including the famous “Tale as Old as Time”.
St Patrick’s Day:
Looking for the best place to join in the St Patrick’s day festivities? Raglan Road Irish Bar at Disney Springs is the perfect place to get into the spirit at the Mighty St Patrick’s Festival. If you didn’t already know, the bar was actually built in Dublin and shipped to Orlando, so you can’t get more authentically Irish than that! There’ll be a troupe of Irish dancers, live bands, and plenty of Guinness.
