February is a great time to visit Orlando as the theme parks are much quieter than in peak season, meaning less crowds and much less time spent in queues. This means you’ll be on those incredible rollercoasters in no time! If you’re visiting Orlando this month, you’ll be pleased to know that there’s a whole host of exciting events planned. Here are just a few of the amazing things you can enjoy…
Epcot International Festival of the Arts:
Epcot’s brand new ‘International Festival of the Arts’ is now in full swing, giving you even more reason to visit this fantastic park. The festival invites guests to “experience the ultimate cultural celebration as food, art and entertainment perfectly merge”. Attend workshops and seminars with visiting artists and learn painting skills with the help of talented Disney artists. One of the event highlights has to be the Disney on Broadway Concert Series, giving you the opportunity to watch the stars of Broadway perform iconic Disney hits at the America Gardens Theatre. We can’t forget the food either! Sample a range of artistic sweet treats that have been given a delicious Disney twist.
Different events are scheduled each week, so pick up a park map when you arrive so that you can plan out your day.
When? Fridays through to Mondays until 20th February.
Universal’s annual Mardi Gras spectacular is not to be missed, and this year the celebrations will be bigger, better and longer than ever before, running for a total of 50 nights! Guests will be able to enjoy delicious Cajun cuisine, watch a dazzling parade and see world-famous artists perform a series of live concerts. This year’s line-up includes Ne-Yo, Fifth Harmony, Olivia Newton-John, Jason Derulo and Earth, Wind & Fire, to name just a few. The parade is definitely one of the highlights, and gives you the chance to admire elaborately decorated floats (this year themed on mythical creatures) and partake in the Mardi Gras tradition of catching beads.
All the festivities are included with your Universal theme park admission, so make sure you don’t miss out!
When? Every night from 4th February - 25th March
Seven Seas Food Festival:
Get ready to “set sail on a taste adventure” with the new Seven Seas Food Festival, coming soon to SeaWorld Orlando. Featuring food, beer and live entertainment, this exciting new festival is definitely worth checking out. There will be a selection of culinary marketplaces set up throughout the park, serving over 60 tasty Asian, Latin, European, Polynesian and Middle Eastern dishes. There’s also more than 55 craft brews to try! The Seven Seas Food Festival isn’t just about the food though, as it will host 14 live concerts at the Bayside Stadium. The Commodores will perform classic hits like “Three Times a Lady”, the Village People will get you singing along to “YMCA” and Lynyrd Skynyrd will have you on your feet for “Sweet Home Alabama”. More artists are to be announced soon.
When? Every Saturday from 11th February - 13th May
Disney After Hours:
Disney After Hours is a magical event that lets you explore the Magic Kingdom after dark. See the park like never before, at this one-of-a-kind event. Experience the thrill of braving your favourite attractions in the dark, with 25 popular rides open until 11pm. The event is limited to a small number of guests only, meaning little to no wait time for the park’s top attractions like Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, Pirates of the Caribbean, Peter Pan’s Flight and the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. You’ll also be able to enjoy special meet and greet experiences with the Disney princesses, so make sure you bring your camera.
This event is separately ticketed, so you’ll have to pay extra if you want to attend, but you’ll get a few treats included like Mickey Mouse ice cream, popcorn and select beverages.
When? 2nd, 9th & 16th February 8-11pm
Princess Half Marathon Weekend:
The annual Disney Princess Half Marathon offers something a bit different, and the chance to raise money for a good cause. The 13.1-mile course goes through both the Magic Kingdom and Epcot parks. Once you successfully cross the finish line, you’ll receive a commemorative medal for your efforts. This year's event has been inspired by Beauty and the Beast and is being sponsored by Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. While it’s now too late to register for 2017, you can still line the course and cheer on the runners as a spectator. If this event is something that interests you, keep a look out for the chance to register which can be as early as 7 months before.
When? 23rd - 26th February
Real Music Series:
The Real Music Series is the longest running concert series at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay and is free with park admission. Hosting 8 weeks of amazing live music from all different kinds of genres and spanning from the 1950s right up until today, this event is perfect for music fans.
