The Wonderful Wizard of Oz to Oz the Great and Powerful!
The many sides of Oz...
The latest instalment to add to the many Wizard of Oz adaptations and renditions comes from Walt Disney Pictures, titled Oz the Great and Powerful, due to arrive in cinemas on the 8th March 2013. However, it all began with L Frank Baum's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, published in 1900.

Before Walt Disney Pictures cast their sights on The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, the world was probably most familiar with the 1939 ultimate classic, Metro- Goldwyn-Mayer's Wizard of Oz movie adaptation starring Judy Garland. That is of course until 2003 when Broadway was taken by storm with Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches, better known as Wicked the Musical. Wicked is the world's 12th longest running Broadway show, based on the 1995 Gregory Maguire parallel novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, based both on the 1939 The Wizard of Oz film and the original L. Frank Baum story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.  In 2004 the original Wicked Broadway production won one of eleven Tony Award nominations, six Drama Desk awards and four Outer Critics Circle Awards. In 2005 the musical took home a Grammy Award for Best Musical Show Album. Since 2003 the Broadway show has won thirty two awards of the sixty three nominations.

On the 8th March 2013 the highly anticipated Walt Disney Pictures Oz the Great and Powerful will arrive in cinemas, adding yet another instalment to the collection of Oz adaptations. Starring James Franco, the Spider-Man franchises' Harry Osborn,  we'll be  transported to the Land of Oz once again. To get us all geared up and in wizard mode for the soon to released Disney Picture, the Disney parks are hosting all kinds of wizarding fun to whisk us away to this whimsical world.
