On the 11th February rescue staff at SeaWorld San Diego rescued a distressed female Sea Lion found on an Oceanside beach. The mammal had sadly taken a bullet.
The suffering Sea Lion was severely injured with an infection on her left flipper which had left a deep exposed wound. After removing the bullet from the mammal’s shot wound, the animal expert team waited to operate. Due to being in such a poor state, the team had to stabilise her health with antibiotics before putting her under surgery.
The animal experts at the Californian marine park believe that the Sea Lion, aged between five and ten years old, was likely to have been shot out of a sheer act of brutality or possibly by a fisherman shielding his catch. The Sea Lion continues to take antibiotics, however her condition remains tentative.
