Universal Orlando on a budget is absolutely achievable…but it takes a bit of planning! With multiple parks, on-site hotels, dining and merchandise all competing for your wallet, it’s easy to spend more than you intended. The good news is some of the smartest savings come before you even land in Florida.
In today’s guide, we cover the most affordable ways to buy tickets and book a hotel for your Universal Orlando trip, plus practical tips for keeping costs down once you’re there!
Where to start? Buy your tickets online in advance!
The single easiest saving on a Universal Orlando trip is buying your tickets in advance through AttractionTickets.com rather than at the gate. You’ll pay less, skip the ticket desk on arrival, and have your gate-ready digital tickets waiting in your account the moment your booking is confirmed.
Which ticket type saves you the most money?
There are currently two Universal Orlando ticket options available to book with us, and the right one for you depends almost entirely on when you’re planning to travel - not which is cheaper:
Ticket | Adult | Child | Parks included | Valid for |
|---|---|---|---|---|
~$846 | ~$831 | Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe | Arrivals from 20 Oct 2026 to 31 Mar 2027 (Volcano Bay will be closed for refurbishment) | |
~$922 | ~$905 | Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, Epic Universe and Volcano Bay | Arrivals 1 Jan to 19 Oct 2026 and 1 Apr to 31 Dec 2027 |
Tickets are date-specific, which means you choose your start date at the time of booking. Both ticket options give you 14 consecutive days of unlimited park-to-park access from that date, so there’s no pressure to cram everything into a single visit.
Why two ticket types?
Universal Volcano Bay will be closed for refurbishment between 20 October 2026 and 31 March 2027. The Three Park Adventure Ticket has been introduced specifically for this period. It’s not a permanent product nor a budget shortcut. If you’re travelling outside those dates, the All Parks Ticket is the one to book.
Do you actually need to park-hop every day?
If you’re travelling with the little ones, one park per day is often more than enough. Children tire out quickly in the Florida heat, and with 14 days on your ticket, there’s no need to rush. Universal Studios Florida is a great place to start. It covers a wide range of ages and houses some of the most iconic attractions on the resort.
How to save on your Universal Orlando hotel
Accommodation is usually the biggest single cost on a Universal Orlando trip. Booking a hotel and ticket package together through AttractionTickets.com is one of the best ways to keep the costs down. Where you choose to stay matters more than the price per night though. Staying on-site at a Universal hotel unlocks two practical benefits that directly save you money elsewhere in the trip:
Free shuttle buses - skip the parking fees!
Every on-site Universal Orlando Resort hotel includes free, continuous shuttle buses to all the Universal parks and CityWalk. Self-parking at Universal Orlando costs roughly $32 per day. For a 13-night trip, that’s a huge cost removed entirely just by choosing to stay on-site! You won’t need to hire a car at all if you’re basing yourself at a Universal hotel.
Early Park Admission - one hour ahead of the crowds
On-site hotel guests can enter select Universal parks up to one hour before they open to everyone else. That extra hour in the morning, before the queues build, is genuinely one of the most valuable perks on the resort. For families trying to keep things moving without paying for Express Passes, it’s a meaningful head start.
Best value hotel - Universal Endless Summer Resort
Endless Summer Resort - Dockside Inn and Suites is Universal’s most affordable on-site option and suits families well. Standard rooms and 2-bedroom suites (sleeping up to six) keep the per-person cost down, and the hotel has two pools, a games room, quick-service dining and a Starbucks on site. Free shuttles and Early Park Admission are also both included!
Our pro tip: On-site hotels include body wash, shampoo, conditioner and lotion in the rooms. This means you can leave the travel toiletries at home - that’s one less thing to pack!
Great for families - Cabana Bay Beach Resort
Cabana Bay Beach Resort is another great option for families. Family suites come with a microwave and small kitchenette, which makes a big difference for keeping breakfast and snack costs down across a longer stay. The retro theming and pool areas are also genuinely enjoyable, not just functional.
Express Pass included? Consider Signature hotels
Staying at a Signature hotel (Hard Rock Hotel®, Loews Royal Pacific Resort or Loews Portofino Bay Hotel) includes Universal Express Unlimited free for the duration of your stay! Rates are higher than the Value properties, but if your group would otherwise buy Express Passes separately, it can be the more economical option overall.
Please note that Loews Sapphire Falls Resort and Universal Helios Grand Hotel don’t have Express Pass included, despite being Signature hotels.
Do you need an Express Pass?
Express Passes are an additional cost and not included with either ticket as standard. Before buying one, it’s worth knowing the two free alternatives that can have a similar effect on your wait times:
- Single Rider queues are available at many of the major rides and are often considerably shorter than the standard line. If your group doesn’t mind occasionally splitting up for a ride, this is one of the most effective ways to move quickly through the parks for free!
- Child Swap is designed for families with younger kids who don’t meet the height requirements for certain rides. Rather than one adult waiting outside while the other queues, the whole group waits together. One adult rides, then the adults swap instantly, without either of them rejoining the line. It’s a significant time saver and completely free to use. Simply let the ride attendant know at the entrance that you’d like to use Child Swap.

When is the cheapest time to visit Universal Orlando?
The Australian school year runs from late January to mid-December, with holidays falling around Easter (April), winter (June-July), spring (September-October) and the long summer break (mid-December to late January/early February).
Period | Why it’s cheaper | Fits school holidays? |
|---|---|---|
September (after US Labor Day) | US schools return to class, easing demand on hotels and parks. | Sometimes, yes. It overlaps with most states’ spring school holidays (roughly late Sept-early Oct). |
Late January to mid-February | Post-New Year lull. Hotel rates at their lowest of the year. | No - falls during the summer holidays, so it’s peak season for outbound Australian travel |
Term time outside school holidays generally | Avoiding both US peak season and Australian school holidays keeps costs down on both sides. | No, by design. |
If you’re tied to school holidays in Australia, the spring school holidays (late Sept into early Oct) line up well with the quieter post-Labor-Day period in the US - one of the few times the two calendars work in your favour at once.
The long December-January summer break sits right in the middle of US holiday season, when both flights and Universal hotel rates are at their highest.
How to spend less on food at Universal Orlando Resort
Food is one of the easiest costs to control at Universal Orlando. A few simple habits add up across a multi-day trip.
Free ice water is available everywhere
Every quick-service restaurant across Universal Orlando will give you free ice water on request. Staying hydrated in the Florida heat doesn’t need to cost a thing.
Share portions and use kids’ meals
Portions at Universal are generous. Sharing a main between two people, or ordering a kids’ meal for smaller appetites, is a practical way to reduce the food bill without going hungry. It’s not a trick - it’s just sensible!
Quick-service restaurants to know
Quick-service dining is consistently better value than table-service and the quality is generally solid. Some reliable spots across the resort include:
- Universal Islands of Adventure: Thunder Falls Terrace, Green Eggs and Ham Cafe, Fire Eater’s Grill
- Universal Studios Florida: Louie’s Italian Restaurant, London Taxi Hut, Bumblebee Man’s Taco Truck
- Universal CityWalk: Hot Dog Hall of Fame, Moe’s Southwest Grill
Plan a few dinners at CityWalk
CityWalk restaurants tend to be more affordable than in-park dining and offer a wide choice of cuisines. Factoring in a couple of evenings there rather than eating inside the parks each night is an easy way to keep the food spend in check!
Practical tips that save you money
Skip the hire car if you’re staying on-site
If you’re based at a Universal hotel, you won’t need a car. Free shuttle buses run continuously between ALL on-site hotels, the parks and CityWalk, and they take collapsible pushchairs without needing to fold them down, which is a great time-saver with little ones in tow! Removing car hire and daily parking from the budget is a meaningful saving on a longer trip.
If you do drive to the parks at any point, self-parking is free after 6pm on standard evenings - worth bearing in mind for an evening visit.
Bring your own pushchair
Universal charges $15-$25 per day for stroller hire. Bringing your own collapsible pushchair from home avoids this entirely, and on-site shuttle buses let you wheel it straight on without folding it down.
Save all merchandise shopping for the last day
Impulse buys in the parks are one of the easiest ways to blow a budget! If you want to pick up souvenirs, make a rule to save all purchases for your final day. By then, you’ll have a much clearer idea of what’s actually worth it. It’s also worth checking Universal’s online shop before you travel, as merchandise is often more affordable there than in-park.
Sort your ESTA before you travel
Australian citizens need an ESTA to enter the US under the Visa Waiver Program. It’s a small cost, but applying well in advance means it’s one less thing to worry about before departure. Learn more about the US ESTA here.
Our final thoughts
The biggest savings on a Universal Orlando trip come from three decisions:
- Booking tickets in advance at a discount
- Choosing an on-site Value hotel that includes free transport and Early Park Admission
- Picking the right time of the year
Everything else - food, pushchairs, parking, merchandise - comes down to habits in the parks that are easy to build once you’re there.
For most families, the combination of booking early with a discount, an Endless Summer Resort hotel package, and a September travel window timed around the spring school holidays gives you the most cost-effective way to experience Universal Orlando, without compromising on the experiences that make the trip worth taking!
