Walt Disney World Resort family itinerary - two weeks
From meeting the Disney Princesses in Magic Kingdom Park to floating along a lazy river at Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park, here’s how to spend an incredible two weeks at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida.
Day 1: Arrive and relax
You’ve just arrived in Orlando, and the first item on the agenda is to check into your hotel and spend some time recovering from your long-haul flight and adjusting to the time difference. If you’ve had an early start, the kids will be tired - and very possibly hangry!
Most flights arrive in the afternoon, so leave exploring the parks until tomorrow - you’ve got two weeks of fun-filled adventures ahead, so there’s no need to rush into it. If you’re staying in one of the Walt Disney World Resort hotels, you can spend some time chilling out around the pool or enjoying the entertainment on offer.
The Walt Disney World Resort hotels also have places to eat so you can grab a quick bite or indulge in a sit-down meal.
Top tip: To ease jet lag, try to keep everyone awake until their usual bedtime. This will really help you all to adjust to the time difference.
Day 2: Visit Magic Kingdom Park
Start your holiday off the right way with a day at Magic Kingdom Park, the theme park most people think of when they think of Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. It’s home to the iconic Cinderella Castle and is the place where Disney dreams come true.
There’s so much to do at Magic Kingdom Park that you could spend two days there - and the good news is that you can with 14 days at Walt Disney World Resort! Spend your first day at Magic Kingdom Park getting to know the park and riding all the rides on your list.
Family-friendly rides include Dumbo the Flying Elephant, “it’s a small world”, and Jungle Cruise.
Don’t miss the Disney Festival of Fantasy Parade in the afternoon, the entire family will love it. State-of-the-art floats parade from Frontierland to Town Square with Disney Characters on board to a soundtrack of original music. Children and adults alike will recognise Disney Characters from their favourite films, including Tangled, Peter Pan, and The Little Mermaid.
Tonight, enjoy the Happily Ever After fireworks show featuring lights, lasers, and special effects.
Day 3: Go wild at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park
Did you know Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park is the biggest Walt Disney World Resort theme park covering over 580 acres? There are over 1,700 animals here, so animal lovers will be in their element.
Start your day by riding Kilimanjaro Safaris. The slightly cooler weather in the morning means the animals are usually more active than in the middle of the day. Then head to Pandora - The World of Avatar. Older children will enjoy a 3D adventure on Avatar Flight of Passage.
Don’t miss the Tree of Life Awakenings, an incredible colour and light show that happens every 10 minutes after dark. The animal carvings in the tree come to life for a mesmerising display.
Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park closes earlier than the other parks, so you can use this extra time to park hop, or head back to your hotel for a bit of RnR before dinner tonight.
Day 4: Visit Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park
On your fourth day in Orlando, it’s time to check out Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park. There are two Disney Water Parks in Orlando, and in this 14-day itinerary, you’ve got time to tick off both.
This water park has a fun ski resort theme, complete with Mt. Gushmore at the centre. For adults and the bigger kids, there are many adrenaline-fuelled attractions, including Summit Plummet, which is the third tallest freefall body slide in the world.
Children can burn off excess energy in the Ski Patrol Training Camp, a water-themed assault course that will keep them busy for hours. Or they can join Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Sven for some Frozen-themed fun in Tike’s Peak, a water play area full of water slides and fountains.
Day 5: Go shopping
On day five, we suggest taking some time out to go shopping. Whether you want some souvenirs to take home or to get the kids kitted out for the year with new clobber, you’ll find it all in Orlando.
Souvenir shopping can get expensive, so we have a top tip to help you save money on your merch. You’ll find authentic Disney items at heavily discounted prices at the Disney Character Warehouses.
The lines found here are often old stock, which is why they are discounted, but there is often nothing to date the lines, so if you don’t mind this, you’ll be able to save yourself plenty of money. They have locations on International Drive, Vineland, and Sunrise.
Top tip for shopping at Walt Disney World Resort:
- You’ll need space to bring back all the Disney merch you buy during your holiday, so why not bring a spare suitcase for all the goodies? Alternatively, you could pack enough clothes for one week and then buy the rest of the clothes you need when you arrive!
- Set a budget for the children before you go shopping. That way, you can avoid awkward situations, and everyone knows what to expect
Day 6: Travel around the world at EPCOT
If your children are school age, they will love learning more about science advancements, nature, and culture at EPCOT. Head to World Showcase, where there are 11 pavilions representing countries from around the world, including Canada, the UK, France, Morocco, Japan, USA, Italy, Germany, China, Norway, and Mexico. Here, you can introduce children to all these different countries in one place!
Stick around after dark for Luminous The Symphony of Us, a nighttime time show featuring fireworks, fountains, lights, and music that lights up the sky over World Showcase Lagoon.
Day 7: Live the movies at Disney’s Hollywood Studios
Time for another theme park day, and this time, it’s Disney’s Hollywood Studios, home to rides and attractions inspired by franchises like Pixar and Star Wars™.
Kids will love Slinky Dog Dash, a family-friendly coaster inspired by Disney and Pixar’s Toy Story that takes twists and turns through Andy’s back garden. Keep your eyes peeled for Woody, Jessie, and Buzz Lightyear too!
Stay for Fantasmic! a spectacular night time show that brings to life the forces of good and evil from Mickey’s dreams, all set to a soaring musical soundtrack. Expect incredible stunts, special effects, and stunning pyrotechnics.
Day 8: Character Dining
Dining with a Disney Character is a really special experience for any children travelling with you - and big kids will love it, too! Get your day off to a fantastic start by having breakfast with Mickey and Friends or the Disney Princesses. There are restaurants at the parks and the Disney Resort hotels.
Here’s where you can enjoy the most important meal of the day with the Disney Characters.

Depending on where you decide to have breakfast, you may wish to stay in that theme park for the rest of the day or head to one of the others using your park hopping tickets.
Day 9: Chill out on the beach
Florida has over 230 sunny days a year on average (source: Best Places), plus hundreds of miles of beaches, and these are the perfect places to unwind. The children can build sandcastles, play in the sea, or play a ball game, while the adults keep watch and soak up the sun!
The closest beaches to Orlando include:
- Cocoa Beach: water sports, shops, restaurants, museums, pier
- Daytona Beach: boardwalk, pier, water park, entertainment, shops, restaurants
- New Smyrna Beach: natural white sandy beach close to Canaveral National Reserve
Day 10: Take a backstage tour
Did you know that you can go behind the scenes at Walt Disney World Resort with a tour? You can book a private VIP tour for the ultimate Disney experience, personalised to exactly what you want to do - perfect if the entire family are Disney mad!
Children will love the animal experiences at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park. Choose from:
- Caring for Giants: elephant experience
- Starlight Safari: night-time animal safari
- Savor the Savannah: two-hour wildlife tour
- Wild Africa Trek: bush walking safari
Day 11: Visit Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park
On day 11, it’s time for the second Disney Water Park - Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon Water Park. The park is themed around a shipwreck, with Mount Mayday at the heart. It’s the ideal water park for families, with plenty of shade, family-friendly rides, and splash pools for the littlest guests.
Day 12: Pool day and Disney Springs
We’ve added one final day of relaxation to this two-week itinerary so that you can go home feeling refreshed and revitalised. Now is a good opportunity to enjoy the pool at your hotel and soak up some more of the Floridian sunshine.
If you’re staying at a Walt Disney World Resort hotel, the kids can take part in some of the entertainment on offer.
At night, visit the entertainment complex, Disney Springs. Here, you’ll find restaurants, entertainment such as bowling, and plenty of shopping.
Day 13: Visit anything you’ve missed in the parks
As the end of your time in Florida grows close, it’s time to do anything that you haven’t had time to do so far. During your adventures over the past 12 days, you will have made your own wish list, so we’ve kept today light and flexible, allowing you to tick some things off.
Our 14-day Disney tickets give you unlimited access to the parks, so you can go back to any of the parks today and move between them.
Day 14: Magic Kingdom Park
As Magic Kingdom Park is the theme park with the most rides, we thought it only right that you should spend more than one day there, giving you time to do everything you wanted to do - and do the things you loved again!
If you didn’t have time to meet the Disney Characters on your first day in the park, you can spend some time getting photographs with them today.
A day here is a fantastic way to end your trip of a lifetime and one that the whole family will never forget. You can stay and watch the fireworks again, or, as you’ve already seen them, you can head back for an early night before your flight home.
